It seems a lot of the the people from countries other than America have a hard time understanding what we're doing. Let me try to explain.
We did not bring 9/11 on ourselves. You can go ahead and try to say that it was, but when it comes to it, no people deserve what happened that day. For most of us, that came TOTALLY out of the blue. I mean TOTALLY. "Who the hell is Osama Bin Laden?" and "Where the hell is this "Al Qaeda" place??" were my first questions when they told us who was responsible for the attack. So we as a people are mad, really mad. Some one said were like the football captain in highschool, that is not the appropriate roll were playing. Think more like, the kid who gets teased and tormented (global criticism and terrorism), and finally someone dumps applesauce in his hair, at which point he pulls out a 9mm and kills the kid with the applesauce. We are mad, we are scared as a people. And that fear and anger is probably clouding our judgment, but so be it.
Believe it or not, I do care what other people around the world think about us. Except for the middle east. I'm just gonna say this once... fuck the middle east and their "I don't like the rich ppl across the street, so I'm gonna strap a case of dynamite to my ass and blow myself up" mentality, or their "We're more moral than the rest of you, so we have to ruthlessly torture and murder the rest of you until you become moral like us" crap. The Aussies? The Europeans? Yah, I care about what they think about us, but they have to remember that we're at the top, which generally means everyone is trying to bring you down. It's human nature, and it's happened countless times in history. And as Americans, we are really paranoid that people are trying to do that to us.
Oh, and to Bertster, seriously. We are the best. Biggest economy: us. Most powerful military: us. Largest giver of foreign aid: us. Largest producer of food: us. You see, its not just assertions, we have evidence to back it up. So call us arrogant, thats fine, we've earned the right to be arrogant for the time being. You'd be arrogant (you were once upon a time) to if you were in are position (ever hear the phrase "the sun never sits on the british empire"?). But don't call us pricks, dont call us ignorant.
