I was watching an interview of Sam Brownback by George Stephanopoulos this morning and it got me thinking about what issues I want to hear candidates address.  Senator Brownback from Kansas had very good answers to all of George's questions and I like him so far.  What issues will cause you to give you vote to a candidate in 08?  List which issues and if there is a candidate that you agree with, post their name.

Economy: If they're against fiscal policy (which noone is) I'd vote for them.
War on Terror: If they're against a draft, I'd vote for them.
Solution to Iraq: Don't care.
Immigration: If they want to expand quotas and loosen the border, I'd vote for them.
SS: Don't care.
Abortion: If they're against abortion, I won't vote for them.
Minimum wage: If they're against raising the wage, I might not vote for them.

For me its all about the border and a solution  to Iraq.

However, the reality is, no matter what the person running says, they will do something else. However they are presented, they will do things that seem to be the reverse.

The War on Terror, Iraq, and the border are the big three for me.  If we don't find solutions on those three, the others don't even matter.  Abortion is still an issue about which I have very strong values, but if someone is pro-choice and has meaningful solutions to the three I've identified, I could live with that.  Why? Because the abortion issue will not change any time soon if the decision is left up the Supreme Court.

Only three people know what issues will matter  to them in the next presidential election?

I don't want to sound like a McCain fanboy, but he certainly sounds like a guy who would be tough on terrorism and he's conservative enough for me.

I voted immigration because our stance on that really is getting to be ridiculous.  I want someone who is willing to sacrifice the rest of his political career to do what's right for the country, not what's right for his reelection.  I want a president who only plans on staying in one term.  I want a Ford, I want a TR, I want a Truman, I want a Johnson, I want a H W Bush, I REALLY want a Reagan.  What I don't want (but will probably get) is a Clinton, a W Bush, a Nixon, a Kennedy.

I would currently vote for the Newt, simply because I believe he fits my ideals closer than anyone else running.  He knows how things work in Washington, and his story would be not unlike Roosevelt.  Roosevelt was a congressman for a little while.  Than he stopped for 9 years.  Then one year he was like, "Ill run for President"  and that's how one of the most distinguished leaders of this nation came to be.  I would not vote for Hillary simply because I am afraid that she is WAY to political.  She's from Arkansas.  So why the hell did she run for senator of New York???  More importantly, what in the hell were the New Yorkers thinking?  Im sorry ppl of NY, but sometimes you all are a little retarded.  A senator's supposed to speak for your state, which would imply that they would be from your state or at the very least residing in your state before choosing to run.  And as far as Obama's concerned, I won' t vote for him because he ran a dirty campaign to get where he is, and he's a leader for his party but not for his peers.

Economy: I'd like to see priorities straightened out.
War on Terror: A better solution for keeping terror out of America. (scans at the ports, and major screening for all Arabs.)
Solution to Iraq: A plan involving giving the Iraqi gov't a swift kick in the ass.
Immigration: Limit immigration, we need to become more American and less everything else.
SS: Hopefully they will set up a good long term plan. I'm only 17.
Abortion: Pro choice.
Minimum wage: UP THAT SHIT!! I get paid 6.75 an hour at Haagen Dazs, would LOVE a raise. Plus it would lessen the need for welfare. (maybe)

Then vote for someone who has a stance opposite to that of what you support. Then when they are elected, they will do the opposite, which is what you wanted them to do.

Economy: I like to see a candidate that focuses on that issue first.

War On Terror: Maybe a different way of fighting terror by other means besides a military way.

Iraq: A better plane to with hearts and minds.

Illegal Immigration: I just want someone to to a better job than Bush is.

Social Security: Not sure.

Abortion: Pro Choice.

Minimum Wage: A raise would be nice.

Illegal immigration and Social Security are the things I'm concerned about. They kind of go hand-in-hand. People illegally immigrate to the US and do not put a dime into Social Security yet they get funds from it... It just blows my mind! I want a candidate that is willing to put up a bill to make Social Security optional. I would vote for them for that reason alone. I hate the way the Social Security program is run. You put money into it that your SUPPOSED to get back when your old and retired, but you'll never get it back, not in-full at least. And you might not get any back at all, with all the politicians dipping into the Social Security fund for their pockets and wars. The Social Security fund is SUPPOSED to be untouchable by the government... I want to see that happen and I want to see the way the Social Security program is run changed too. Or even better, I want to see that the Social Security program is made optional. Let me decide how to manage my money, not the government. Right now the Social Security program is more like a Politicians Security TAX... My $0.02...

I agree with you, Social Security does need a major overhaul.  I really liked the idea of personal accounts for Social Security.  The individual owns the funds, the government can't touch it, and the individual decides how to invest it!  Amazing concept, huh.  But no, the AARP scared all the older folks into protesting any changes and they're such a big voting block that no politician has the stones to make changes.  I personally don't want one red cent of my money going into Social Security because I'll never get any money back.  In 30 years when Soc Sec goes belly up, my generation will be left holding the bag while our parents and grandparents spent all the money.

Not to mention the government dips its hands into the SS fund for things like...oh say...their own payrolls, and then they give SS payments to the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHO NEVER PUT A CENT INTO THE SYSTEM! I agree with you that the SS program is going to go belly up in 25-30 years. God help us...

How do you propose these immigrants recieve the SS payments seeing as they have no documentation or legal SSN with which to collect the payments? Try using that thing between your ears for once.

None, 'cause they're all a bunch of lying, coporate-tit-suckling douchebags.

I'll vote for anything but Republican't and Demifat.

I'm tired of wasting time going to stand in line on that un-special tuesday. I stand there for at least an hour listening to incompetent animals babbling about propositions/candidates that they haven't done an ounce of research on.

Obtaining a SSN is not hard, just pay enough.

I should run for president. I know absolutely nothing about running a country and that is precisely why I should be the president. Every candidate that has ever run has proclaimed they know the answer, they know how to fix this and that. Nobody has done dick. My platform is this: "I dont know shit". I would concentrate on one thing, take your issue, and make that one thing great. I may not make the country great, but I wouldnt make it FUBAR either. Does my platform sound juvenille? Well it would be the first time a president did what he said he was going to do. Fuck politicians. Fuck bipartisanship. Fuck.

Here is to Not Knowing Shit..........cheers.

...dealing with Iraq and balancing the budget.  Although, after the last 2 elections, my standards have really fallen.  I'll be happy if we just get someone in the Oval Office who can finish a speech without stuttering.
