Laughing out loud at democrats.
On Friday, for example, the House was in session for a little more than eight hours. Only five of them, however, ticked off on new Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record)'s 100-hour clock for quickly passing a six-bill agenda that Democrats promised voters last fall.
With passage of a bill to make the government negotiate for lower Medicare prescription drug prices, Pelosi, D-Calif., is two-thirds of the way done — in under a quarter of the allotted hours, according to her count.
That's because just as the official clock for a basketball or football game stops for time-outs and commercial breaks, Democrats aren't counting the minutes spent on business unrelated to those six designated bills.
Clock ticking on Dems' 100-hour agenda lolz...
I expecting nothing less. Still the unfettered audacity of the liberal democrats never ceases to amaze.
As the price index rises, you have to pay people more so they can buy stuff. So, eventually if you don't pay your people more, they will find higher paying jobs elsewhere. Plus it lowers GDP, increases illegal immigration, increases foreign competion...etc etc etc.jonsimon wrote:
No, an increase in wages causes an increase in inflation. But an increase in the minimum wage doesn't change wages unless the increase is above the current equilibrium price of labor. You people keep making the faulty assumption that the minimum wage is currently at the equillibrium price.
ATG is affected - his vendor costs will go up.
Oh ok, thats alittle better, because if they were thinking only 100 hours a year I was about to go kill them all....ATG wrote:

You're missing the point. If the price floor NEVER exceeds the equillibrium price, nothing will really change. The only effect is that anyone who was taking advantage of their labor and paying them less than the equillibrium price will have to pay equillibirum. You're either missing the point, or blowing a tiny little change out of proportion.Pug wrote:

As a business person, I can set my selling price where ever I want to and that is sustainable. Other companies do not have that luxury.
Look at resturants; gas, workers comp, taxes licenses are all over the place. The price of lettuce may change =/- 0.25 per month, but do their prices fluxxuate?
No.
Tell you one thing, when I am bidding a job, if you are a lawyer or government official I paint a giant target in my brain on your ass and proceed to rape it for every penny I can.
People paying in currency get priority treatment, if you understand me.

yes, and coming from a liberal, a better party. Todays democrats are far too conservative and weak minded.Commie Killer wrote:

ATG is affected - his vendor costs will go up.
You're saying the price floor never exceeds the equilibrium price because it is assumed to be raised by the same percentage, or the company/market can absorb the offset. One of the results of increasing the cost input, is to increase the opportunity of alternative methods of doing business. Like outsourcing.
As far as blowing out of proportion - This isn't a 5 cent increase. Its a bundle.
We've done this before re: minimum wage. You are assuming that nothing will happen if the cost input increases - the company won't do anything differently, people won't mind paying more money for the basics, companies won't outsource to low labor markets overseas to maintain profit margins, illegal immigrants are good for the economy...etc etc etc.
As far as the "well no one works at the minimum wage anyway" then this applies: if you are being paid around the new minimum wage level, you're going to ask for a raise...because "no one works at minimum wage". The manager above that individual sees he's being paid close to the new wage earner, he asks for a raise. The manager's supervisor sees he's being paid close to the manager so he asks for a raise....that's why everyone gets paid more? But that's a theory that you do not perscribe to.
So I do understand your point, but I'm trying to shed some light on some likely results of raising the wage level.
But what you have minimized completely - is adding another inflationary measure into our economy a good thing? And why do you think increasing the minimum wage is a good?

it went up here in neveda to 6.15 an hour, from 5.15. nothing really
i work on min wage+commission.
it was nice, but the cost of living just goes up a notch, so it all offset's itself
most people in this town work on min wage ie. bartenders, poker dealers, valet, host, conicerge..etc etc.
but gross 60K+ a year
some valet do 100K..
the min means nothing to me anyway
i sell laptops for a living..nothing glamrous.
i heard today the min may jump yet again by may to 8.15 an hour, which is bad for me, beacuse my draw goes up higher. either that or the company will settle for a fixed wage of say 12.50 an hour...so who knows
