i got a 9550 in my other machine, old, but it gets the job done in bf2. 2142 is another story though, never above 20 fps.

why waste almost 300 when you can get this for under 200 after rebate.

That sucks.  Even if I had a power supply that was up to it, my mobo is only AGP 2.0

$300. Not bad really.
Two thumbs down. What's the point of putting a 1950 in an AGP slot?

at this point, it's a waste of money.  a year ago, maybe not.

true but for me to get a pci-express card  right now would mean a new mobo, cpu , and ram on top of that

guess its a good quick-fix option

the ati x850xtpe has 16 pixel pipelines and mine oc's to 600/630 on water
This is the card you want if you have agp.

edit : just pushed it up to 630 ghz on the mem oc

Well the link is down...

First the price of 300 is really silly I agree but it won't stay there for very long.

I can see the price of the 256Mb version coming down into the 180 range after everyones christmas money is spent, and certainly once the R600 ATI core comes out. Not sure about the 512Mb version however it will probably always demand a premium.

I have a feeling that ATI is releasing the AGP version now so that it can use up the older R5's in AGP that will be a shame.

Also it really P/O's me about these people who say that AGP will bottleneck AGP sucks etc. Those people are just on crack that's it or maybe should pull their head out of their well... O.K.

In order to get fast frame rates you need a fast CPU, this is true but many people have 3.0+ P4's or 2+GHz bartons and althons and 2G of ram. These systems are just fine for a x1950. Would a quad core be better sure, but you won't get one of those in a simple switch to PCI-E. Even if you decide to pay 400 in addition to the PCI-e switch you still won't get a quad core.

Also the AGP slot is still fine and will handle this card no problems. Compared to the X850XT sure you have more pipelines but doesn't the x1950 have more pixel shaders? pixel shaders equals eye candy. BUt your right an upgrade from that card wouldn't be worth it.

I think the card is a good buy in the 180-220 region. Probably extend the life of your current rig another year or more. In a year you could then get that octa-core CPU with DDR3, by that time the 8800's will be cheap enough to SLI and not break the bank.

Anyways enough is enough about complaining about this card. If you want to complain I'd complain about the following.

- price between PCI-E and AGP (difference should not be more than 20 bucks)
- not offering the 1900xt
- the wait was too long
- paper launch

I have this card, i upgraded from the ATI 9550 which just got the job done in BF2 with low settings, but since i've moved to 2142 it was terrible, so i had to upgrade my APG till i get me new system in afew months.  Make sure you check your power supply can take it though, the 7800GS needs at least 400-450w.

My advice, move away from ATI to Nvidia.

Take a look on www.overclockers.co.uk for a good price and quick delivery.
