I've been really bored this morning, not much work to do, nothing planned and I had a random impulse to play hl2!

I've already completed it (obviously) along time ago but the urge was still there.

In my opinion it is the best single player fps out there now. It has everything you need: good storyline, amazing graphics, immersive gameplay and good AI.

My question to you is: Is Half-Life 2 The Best Single Player of All Time?

With new games coming out like Crysis who knows how long it will be the best game for me, but for the moment, it easily is.

I said yes but it think half life 1 would have put up a better challenge if they didn't forget to tell the story half way through. Half life 2 had some great epic scenes and it felt like you were traveling across the entire country but half life 1 had some really creepy scenes and was full of tension.

BF2 meant to be playd online anyway!. If they had concentrated on a singleplayer, then the MP wouldn't have been that good!

Hl2 is just awesome.

The story is so fun to play, so much depth to it, those bastards with the episodes though, they already made the first 4 but wont release them all! Damn Valve to hell!!!

I really like hl2, but I hate that the maps aren't wide open. Like you're at point A and you want to get to point B, but you can only get there by travelling one specific way. Even if there were multiple ways to get there but only one worked would be better. But instead there's just one way and not even any false leads. "oh gee, look at that, another car is blocking yet another alleyway."

HL2 has a great single player, but I contend that GTA:San Andreas has the best single player experience.

HL2 seems to coral you down a pre-determined path.

I haven't played it, but I am seriously considering buying it for the release or Resistance and Liberation - a WW2 Ultra realism mod. I am predominatley a CoD player, and played in tactical realism clans and leagues, using a realism mod.

To some extent that's a good thing. For example Tomb Raider takes it too far in the other direction *where the fuck do i go now?!*

It's an essential aspect of a game to point you in the right direction, but just not too much; hl2 succeeds at this.

It's still up to the player to walk down that path.

San Andreas is just.....ganstAAAA!
It's more of an RPG though right?

I agree that a single player should lead you down that path, its just that with HL2 (imo) that that path feel entrenched, almost like you are travelling through a very well constructed funhouse.

GTA, RPG, i guess you are correct on that ...

For PC, Deus Ex is better. HL2 was too short and the ending was fucking horrible. I know it was to set up something, but still crap.

Overall, I give it a 4 of 5. Deus Ex = 10 of 5.

God of War is probably the best ever.

The original Deus Ex was amazing and wins by far for depth and replayability. HL2 bored me and I thought the weapons were too bland. F.E.A.R. takes it for great AI and absolutely amazing graphics.

You guys are totally neglecting the old games, where fancy graphics weren't enough to make a game that sells, computers were so crap that the programming had to be top notch, etc.

I'm talking about the pre-2000 ID games! Quake 2 ftw!

Pre 2000 for me is Unreal and Duke3d. Unreal was amazing, even though I could barely play it on my P166, ok'd to 200.
