Cause at first Mars did have a magnetic field.  Thats evident in the rocks.  As for them not melting cause mars does have a rang of temperatures like here on earth.  Being colder up north and warmer around the equator.

I've got to go to work so i'll check the thread out when I get back tonight.  I am so in the arguing mood. muhahaha

Edit: Missed the link cause of the thread move.  You know how much weaker the field is from earth's...  I mean serously its almost not there.

dammit i'm sick of the global warming thread always getting moved, you start one base on one line of logic and it always gets muddled up when put here.

Its just not that simple.  Like I said before Mars does not have a magnetic field.  Its what keeps most radiation from hitting the planet.  Thats probably a good reason why there is no life on Mars.  Of course earth does have a magnetic field so we are protected from the harsher of the radiations.
I think you are confusing magnetic feild with maybe ozone layer. An ozone layer blocks UV rays, as stated in one of kr@cker's sources Mars's ozone layer is not as thinck as Earth's.

kr@cker, I'm coming back to your argument, just be patient.

GG moving the thread!

Great to see that we need one topic to discuss a issue which is regarded as a global threat in a larger scale than terrorism, making the topic messy and quite hard to follow, GG!

don't know if this has been mentioned, couldn't be bothered to read the whole topic, but water is actually denser than ice so when the ice caps melt the size of the water from that ice cap will be less than the original ice cap

Got that

The general consensus of global warming is that it is the effects of human industry. Not one article refuting that statement has ever been published in scientific journals. It is the opinion of scientists is that this is a very real situation that we have caused.

But don't worry about Canada. Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Environment Minister Rona Ambrose have a "plan". (What a joke it is)

Even though ice takes more space than water your point is unfortunatly not true. The water level will be higher after it has melted. Water based ice will not really make a difference as it is in water and its mass is equal to the same body of water (remebering that icebergs have part of themselves above water).
The problem is that Land based ice will melt into the ocean => Making the water level rise. We can see that already this is a problem (land based ice melting). On the North-Pole landbases 50 times the size of Norway (I'm sorry I do not have anything you can compare it to give you a better picture of it) has melted, in 50 years time you can probably row to the North-Pole instead of ski.
On the South-Pole large water based icebergs have already broken away from land and melted complety, clearing the way for land based ice to melt.*

My points are always wrong

however i am still unconvinced that we are do anything major to cause global warming, its just another way to tax people

Global warming is not a real threat. "Global warming" is a process that the Earth goes through regardless. Sure we're speeding it up a little, but it's part of the Earth's cycle. I took a course last year that dealt with this kind of stuff, like how the earth was created and how old it is, the cycles it goes through, etc. "Global warming" is just made up by idiotic politicians. It's natural for the earth to heat up then cool back down. As soon as things get pretty hot here, we'll hit another ice age. And that won't be happening for a very long time.

So I guess this is my point: yes we need to find alternatives to fuel and stop burning a lot of shit, but it's gonna happen anyway, so get over it.

Even if our affect is minimal, its still a fucking threat, thats like saying living under an active volcano isnt a threat, ofcourse it is, steps need to be taken to minimise the damage.

we need to learn how to adapt rather than praying to the good of fossil fuels to help us stop our minimal effect

I doubt, however, the natural cycle is this fast.

Spark is right. It isn't supposed to occur so quickly unless we are the ones affecting the environment. While you may judge yourself a scientific expert, I would rather listen to scientists, who do judge it to be our industry that has created global warming.

If you don't think Global warming is a threat then good for you, you ignoramus. For the rest of us ... it's high time to take some initiative and stop waiting for our relative governments to legislate solutions or 'plans'. Here are a few things my wife and I have started ...

* Subscribe to a electricity company that provides electricity generated from wind, solar and wave technologies.
* Installed grey water switches to re-use water from the laundry, showers and kitchen for your gardens.
* Install rain water tanks (no explanation required).
* Plant trees, lots of trees. At home, or in a community based environmental rejuvenation schemes.
* Buy a treddly (push bike) and ride to work, if it is at all feasible.
* Walk down to the local grocery, newsagent, hardware etc when buying one off items or daily consumables.    You don't really need to drive !

And if you really want to get into it, start reading some material on permiculture ... thousands of great ideas,  techniques and other pearls of wisdom.

Not at all. 4x4's in town = fail.

4x4's in rough terrain = win.

Indeed.

I'm suprised you understood. Most Americans don't get cars and seem to be under some deluded impression that American cars are in some way good.

Global Warming is nothing but science fiction, they have nothing to compare our temperatures to the past, accurate temperatures were taken no more than 150 years ago, and even then is nothing to take into consideration when the Earth's age is over 4.6 Billion years old. It IS constantly changing, there is very little human impact, if any. Is fossil fuel burning exactly good for our environment? No, but is it affecting enough to worry about? No.

For that you guys discuss about ocean temperature's going up? Well, how is that from CO2 build up when oceans provide most of the worlds oxygen producing plants. You can cut down every tree in the land, and there would still be a plentiful amount of oxygen to breath, from the ocean. Not to mention, there is no where  near as much gas burning products used in the ocean to cause CO2 levels to rise in the oceans. Also, saltwater lowers the melting point of water, furthermore allowing water to melt at a temperature below 0 degrees Celsius, so in the even it's at a temperature below the normal freezing temperature, it can still melt.

Therefore, the only logical reasoning for this is that the ocean temperatures are rising from liquid hot magma underneath the crust, such as the mid-Atlantic ridge, which by the way is spreading constantly everyday. Something out of our control.
