I know there have been many related threads but I thought I might share this.
I was taking a bus home today after a late class and something really struck me. The bus driver left his engine running while he was checking tickets, etc, and the whole process lasted for about 10min(busy bus stop). This old lady comes and starts giving the driver a mouthful for leaving the engine on and at the same time he is just ignoring her like she is some wacko. She started looking around for some support from the other passengers, including myself, but we just ignored her. It was at this moment I realized. WOW, this old lady who will most probably never suffer the effects of our global warming, gives a shit about the environment more then us, the younger generation.

Global warming is noticeable. In Norway, where I live, snow should have fell about a month ago but right now it is resembling a normal spring day. My point is, we are screwed!! How are we going to change society when the younger generations care less about the environment then the older generations.....

I am not a Greenpeace activist but feel compelled to say this.

the sun is getting hotter, mars is undergoing the same warming, there ain't shit we can do about it, enjoy the ride or give me your oil and i'll enjoy if for you

i forgot how long it's supposed ot take, but the sun is expected to go through a cooling phase, then swing back into a heating phase even longer than the one we're in, go see sarrk's sun thread and join the war on the evil sun

edit: on average, it takes more fuel to start an engine than it does to leave it idling for 20 minutes

To be honest, I used to believe that but I figured that these effects would happen over a longer period of time. After seeing the climate changes in Norway I am acutally quite convinced that global warming exists.

You share the attitude of George Bush. Congrats.

Cant believe people are on about global warming still! Its all government hype to cover up the fact that we are running out of fossil fuels, therefore the governments income will me reduced immensly.

Global Warming is always followed by Global Cooling. Geologists have known this for donkeys years. Layers of sedimentary rock can expose what the climate was like at the time of formation, similar to carbon dating.  Not sure of the average cycle duration, but I believe it to be every few thousand years or so, the Earth heats up, then the Earth cools down.

So I say enjoy the "Global Warming". Will save people a fortune on going on these expensive holidays or sunbeds.  Enjoy the suns rays while they don't kill you, then when the big freeze comes back after that, get your snowboards out and hit the millions of new slopes.

Global Warming = Not a Problem.

Kneejerk alarmist? Yes, I am now quite sure the environment is screwed.

i seem to remember something called the ice ages which happened a long time before you were "washing your clothes at 40 degrees and driving a 4x4"

trust me, this is coming from a qualified diesel mechanic, a diesel engine idling at a bus stop for ten minutes? uses such a small amount of fuel it's not even worth thinking about(we're talking teaspoons here, a quick off the hand calculation in very general terms estimates that 10 minutes of idling costs 36 grams of fuel). While a modern diesel engine will not use more fuel starting than idling, it's better to leave the thing idling for maintenance purposes, given the small cost it is to keep it running. Sorry but the global warming hype has gotten out of hand,

Is that supposed to be an insult?  You'd rather share something with George W. Bush than with Chicken Little?  If so please explain why?

George W. is not a climatologist.
Despite the propaganda the science community is not in total agreement with what the answers are.
Admittedly, the prospects are ominous, but ill thought out massive government spending to fix it is too.

Its just funny how people don't know how lucky we are to even be here.  The possibility of life appearing at is almost slim to none.  Especially if you consider if you just change one thing and it will destroy life as we know it.  Example being if you removed the moon.  The earth would not be on a tilt of 23.5 degrees and we would not have seasons.  There is a shit load more that can happened if you just removed the moon alone.  Not to mention if anything else was changed around use.

I just find it odd how ignorant some people are. Yes, there may be some scientific explanation that causes the climate change and the melting of the ice caps but its odd how you dont even consider global warming. Americans: Keep on driving your SUVs while us in the North are suffering from this shitty weather. Flame away!!!!

Global warming and cooling is a natural thing but we certainly aren't helping ourselves any with the fuels that we burn and the forests that we clear.

My only comfort in this whole thing is that after we all die as a result of climate change the earth will start to repair itself and hopefully get back to the way it was before we f'd it up.

I really really do hope you are joking, if not you have a problem, a big problem.

if americans dont care about global warming as you infer, why would we care about your weather?

Sounds like you read the same book I did " What if the moon didn't exist?"

Its a combination of both natural causes and man made cause.  Burning all the fossil fuels is eventually going to show change in our weather if not now then not to much longer from now.  And besides I don't like breathing in exhaust from a SUV or anything.  Another effect you can look is is the acid rain that Canada gets sometimes from us Americans.  I think I saw the Canadians were actually sewing the U.S. over this.(Correct me if I wrong.)  I use to think personally that we are the cause of global warming then I did my research.  We are currently going through a warming phase here on planet earth.  But, that does not mean we are not speeding it along fast.

And how often do these warming phases occur? Yes there was one during the middle-ages, but it was not nearly close to as large as the one being experienced now.

As has been said in hundreds of threads and by many scientists it is happening, it happens naturally, however we are speeding this increase beyond it's natural rate.

Although China release the most Carbon dioxide, CFCs, etc, America are very close and relative to their populations that is quite scary.
