I honestly don't think the police overreacted, I mean, sure, they turned out to be normal folks, but what would've happened if they turned out to be terrorists? They KNOW that praying before a flight will turn heads into suspecting them, its not their fault but if I was over in Iraq I wouldn't go wearing an American flag suit in public, I'd be kidnapped or killed in a second. They had it coming, Muslims should know better than to start praying before a flight, if they want to pray leave the damn show and do it in your head.

According to the religion they did have to pray. If they had a large wait before the flight, that's a perfect time to pray. I'm sure they wanted to avoid praying on the plane (for obvious reasons).usmarine2007 wrote:

Well...they couldn't have prayed en route to the airport and would have had to check in and check luggage. The gate for most travelers is where they get a chance to actually slow down before boarding the plane and given that airlines recommend arriving at least 2 hours before hand I'm sure they had loads of time before boarding.
Since they were observant (they are Imams after all) they would have had to make all of their prayers (similar to observant Jews and some Christians praying 3 times a day) in the way specified by the religion.

Didn't the 9/11 hijackers deliberately try to appear not to be Muslim by visiting Strip joints and drinking?|=-sL-.Cujucuyo. wrote:

What if this is a tactic? To get the airlines so affraid of "offending" muslims, that something slips by?Masques wrote:

Of course you're never going to be entirely safe, silly, but nobody can tell me to disregard signs when they're visible.Masques wrote:

The fact of the matter is, profiling has one major flaw. It's not random, which means (like all pattern of behaviour) it is easy to circumvent. Government profiling Arabs? Recruit caucasians, blacks, hispanics, asians.

Well, before 9/11 would you have thought of someone who frequents strip bars and downs a few liters of vodka as a possible terrorist? Do you still?Stingray24 wrote:

After 9/11, why not?
Just because they're militant islamic nutjobs, doesn't eliminate the fact they're red blooded men who, if given the chance, want to see a naked chick. Especially if they come from a country where women can't show 1 square inch of skin. They all probably lost control with all the bare breasts in one location.

They would only have one way flights!kr@cker wrote:
why don't they just start their own airline? Allah's Airways?
Wow this thread is racist. If I saw someone doing that, I wouldn't be a lilly-livered pussy. I'd board my flight, say nothing of it, and if I was feeling paranoid, I'd make sure I knew where they were and what weapons were at my disposal on the flight.
Well I'm not a pussy brick-shitting racist oblivious to other customs and religions so I'd get right on that plane and fly away. Just like I have done innumerable times in the past. Fear is our greatest enemy. It's the aim of terror: to generate fear and divide peoples.

I guess the thought of, "it couldn't happen to me" does help quite a bit.CameronPoe wrote:

It happening to you is the reverse of winning the lottery - it happening is about as likely as winning it. I happen to have travelled on buses in Jerusalem, internal flights in Israel, taxis in Jordan, on camels in Morocco, on the tube in London, on internal flights within USA, the El in Chicago, the subway in NY, Amtrak across eastern USA, the metro in DC, the T in Boston. There are a gazillion possibilities something bad could happen to you. Walking across the road is more dangerous than any of those things.lowing wrote:

I would call security then try to knock them out. AND I WOULD SHURE AS HELL NOT GET ON THAT PLANE WITH THEM NO QUESTIONS ASKED. NOT BING RASIST OR ANY THING but they started praying so they might be going to hijack the plane
They were also spread out seated "strategically" on the plane.usmarine2007 wrote:

Now, if I were waiting to board my flight, and a few arab dudes started praying, I would NOT get on that flight.
Say what you want, but I would not be going.

Why were no explosives or weapons found in their luggage. And why didn't they attack/blow up the flight they eventually took? LOLKmarion wrote:

So, if I just started jerking off mid-flight, that would be ok? Shit, nobody got harmed, except the seatback.CameronPoe wrote:

and I can't help but wonder how many times the pilots of AA and United flew their routes before 911, or how many times the passengers on the train in Spain and London road the rails, or how many times the workers in the US embassies showed up for work, or how many times the resort in Bali was enjoyed. Your notion of putting your hands over your eyes and your fingers in your ears and just playing the odds that they won't blow you up, as the solution to solving the terrorist problems in the world is ridiculous.CameronPoe wrote:

look into the eyewitness accounts and police reports, these asshats were purposefully making spectacles of themselves. they wanted this kind of attention so they could start some ACLU movement to ban all profiling altogether so their little gay love buddies in the mosques would have an easier time hijacking their next flight.
I live in New York City and I see muslims every day. I can't count the number of times I have ridden in taxicabs driven by people with muslim-sounding names. Even if I tried, there is no way I could be concerned about muslims boarding a plane. I'm not saying it's bad or good, it's just a fact that suspicion of muslims has been wiped out of me by hundreds of uneventful experiences.
So I have two comments:
1. Do people who live in rural and suburban settings react more strongly to muslims than city-dwellers do? Is that the case in this thread?
People who have been shot at by muslims (in Iraq or elsewhere) are in a special class regardless of where they reside in the US. If I had been in Iraq or Afghanistan, I don't know how I'd feel seeing muslims on the street or driving my taxi. Probably pretty fucking suspicious.
2. Whose perceptions are more accurate?
