For me, when I get bored, I either drink, or read, or both.
Last evening. I decided to read about The battle of Gettysburg, Read about Picket's charge, which led to me reading about General Longstreet, General Robert E. Lee, Colonel Chamberlain's battle of "Little Round Top", The final siege of Petersburg and the surrender of Lee's army, The defense of the Richmond rail line, Grant's war, Pickett's life, Slavery, all from an afterthought of watching "Gettysburg" movie.
If you think about it, the history of the world and every current event is at the tips of your fingers. Unprecedented in history. Utilize it.
Begin with ONE thought. Off the top of my head, "what started the american gold rush?" Obvious answer, perhaps, but from there you will find a lifetime or 20 worth of stories, facts, histories, interesting tidbits.

And once you know what you enjoy doing, try and center your life around this thing.
