Apparently he had already finished filming the Batman movie and was on to something else. According to the news report a few posts above mine, he had recently split from his wife, and there were pills scattered around the apartment.

TBH I'm shocked......he was a really good actor and had a huge future ahead of him.
Batman Begins will be a great monument to him.....apparently his portrayal of the Joker was amazing.

It'll be kinda like when they released the movie "Miracle" about the 1980 USA Hockey Team in the Olympics. The coach Herb Brooks died just a few weeks before its release.
