I'm in no way a racist. I think racism is the epitome of ignorance but I really don't see the appeal of Rap music. Black culture in the past had phenomenally talented musicians such as Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, George Clinton and Bernard Edwards to name but a few but today there are fewer and fewer black musicians that i find impressive or talented in any way. Rap music just seems to take other people's music and put some guy dressed in trackies and over the top jewellery mumbling unintelligibly over the top of it. It also promotes a lifestyle that should not be seen as something to be admired; pimps and gangsters are not good role models.

At least we still have people like Prince, The Roots, Lenny Kravitz and Robert Randolph and the Family Band keeping the flame alive.

I've heard some decent rap, but sadly, 95% of it is all about image.  I got my cool car, my grill, my jewelry (you too can collect them all and be cool), and a hard life that makes me better than you.  Um, okay....sure.  It breeds the same mentality you see in this, and well, pretty much any other thread.  If you disagree with me, you're a retard (and I'm gonna kill ya!).

Almost all rap music is made for children.  It's entertainment to make a dollar.  Think professional wrestling.  It's the same damned thing.  They got costumes and everything.  Not that this is completely a bad thing, but in the case of the rap music that a person is likely to be exposed to on TV, or in public, it's something purely for children.  I mean come on....rap dude's with their own clothing line (still just looks like mall clothes, but whatever)?  Yeah, that's keeping it pretty fucking real.  I love the Aquabats, but I don't feel the urge to dress like them, and their comstume stuff is no more rediculous than 50cent or that dude named after soothing tea.

It will surely be argued that all commercial music is the pursuit of money.  I'll even agree with that.  Although outside of rap, and well, MTV in general, you'll notice a much larger percentage of performers don't feel it necessary to push such shitty stereotypes onto kids.  Glorifying gang violence, spouse abuse, and chemical addiction, oh yeah, keeping it real indeed.

Rap is bad poetry set to a muscian's mangled arrangment.

I hate most of it.  My parents hated my music. You will hate your kids music too. Its a Law I think.
