Or anniversary, or whatever. Well today, is June 10th. At least here it is. And while you couldn't download the demo until it was June 10th in the US, I don't care I just want to be a glory hog and make the first BF2Birthday thread. Go make one on TotalBf2 or something. Boo.

Yup... so one year ago, Battlefield 2: The Demo, came out.

I still remember my first spawnlife. I spawned as assault by the Construction Stite. Ran around a bit, jumped, etc. Got used to the controls. Shot the gun and was disgusted by the muzzle flash graphics. And then I said, yes, out loud, "Oh my god it's in fucking burst mode." My respect for the game dropped a bit more. My brother came into the room and said "hey cool what's that?" "Battlefield 2" "oh there's a new one? what locale is it now?" Being entirely clueless... I said "Gulf War". I mean, we were in Oman, right? Meh. But then I took out the grenade launcher, shot it against a wall and blew up a Humvee with it. Then I died and respawned on the carrier.

One map... but with endless fun. Some quotes I'm sure everyone who played it can relate to.

"Sweet! They brought back capital ships!"
"Where's the cockpit for this battleship?"
"Bah whatever... I'll take a plane"
"Hold your backwards key to engage the hover engi-"
"zOMG HOVER PLANE!!!11"

"Double tap the forwards key to sprint"... or with my incredible smartness, shift should be default mapped... and yes it is! score!

"wtf why doesn't the Oil tower die when i shoot it with the rocket turret?"

"Sweet! TV missiles. OMG I CRASHED wait no.. noo.. i'm alive.. that was the rocket eh? awesome! again!" - missed again...

add your own from the good ol' demo days.

Ranked servers that crashed every 5 minutes. Ranked servers with thousands of tickets. Blackhawk Whoring. I miss the old BF2. I really had a lot of fun when I first bought this game, regardless of the fact that I was getting my ass kicked. I wonder why it isn't like that anymore.

I remember being one of the first people to have downloaded the demo. Someone had made a webpage that automatically refreshed the GameSpot site where the download was being held so it would tell you immediately when it was released. Yeah, I'm addicted.

Heh, I remember when I reached the rank of Corporal at 10,500 points...

Ah yes. I was puzzled by the unlock screen when I reached Lance Corp, that i accidentally selected the G3.

And I was sooo pissed. So I played hard and long to get to the 10,500 mark. I was soo proud of that moment, that I finally get to get the G36C. I had longed for that gun, all 9,500 points of the way to it.

And it finally sets you above the 60 other Lance Corporals in your 64 player server. The two privates, the single PVC and the one guy who was a sergeant which you dreamed to be.

And then 1.03 came with the rank reductions and Wake...

I played wake becuase all the servers were toying with the new map... and I thought EA fucked up. Every point I earned made me rank up. wtf? I saw people with ranks I'd never seen before. I created a new character, hoping to have a bunch of uberranked guys before it was fixed... but nae, I learnt of what really happened.

Then I finally got out of my Unlock-Shock. hah

I went out and bought the game, not having checked out the specs that were required for it. I went home and installed it. Luckily, i had a good enough system for it. I almost cried when i came onto BFHQ one time and my stats didnt load up. i thought some asshole falsely reported that i was a stat padder and had gotten my stats erased...anyone else ever thought that had happened?

One of my favorite times was when I got my expert knife combat badge. It was seriously one of the funnest rounds I've ever played.
I really liked playing when it was still pretty new and many people were still getting the hang of things. It was fun when I could join just about any server and find a lot of cool people who were fun to play with. I don’t think those days are necessarily over, but it’s not quite the same.
I remember playing the demo on some seattle server that had global unlocks on. SO much fun! And because of that, I knew to choose the DAO-12. back before 1.03 the dao had an 8x16 spread and it pwned everything!

yes. fond memories of the old unlocks, i remember when the unlock guns were hard to get, one day i killed a support guy and picked up his kit and wamma PKM that was the day. and every 1 was a PVC or corperal and there was like 1 sargent that every 1 looked up to.

i remember when the game came out

1) when i said " cool i can drive around in a jeep"
2) throw c4 with my favorite class ----spec ops and nuke the whole entire map
3) when people bunny hop like bugs bunny
4) when the blackhawk with engineers, medics and support can take out any flag and was virtually unstoppable
5) when people make 200+ kills with jets
6) when the assault class was king with all the noob tubers there
7) when servers crash all the time
8) my first unlock...g36c...... g36c sniping as a spec ops....... here we come

the game is still good.. unfortunately the noobs and the asswipes in this game started turning the game into a urinal.

I remember a year ago I was playing CoD United Offensive. We were playing in our favorite SD server, and the map was Bocage, and on TS I heard one of my friends say "Yeah, well I tried out the BF2 demo". I asked "How is it?", he said "It totally sucks, it's just like 1942". lol, I probably wouldn't have boughten it if he hadn't said that.

I bought it during the first week in July 05 and have loved it ever since.

I get in a tank, thinking, "ok, lets see how far away ican hit that car, still thinking with 1942 bullet drop... then I shot... then ZOMG it goes stright!!11!!!. Taht and the sniper rifles. Compared to '42, those things are like laser guns or something.

oh i remember thinking how horribly inaccurate everything was compared to cs. its exactly why i thought support was terrible
