I just thought I would also mention, that you need to unblock the bf2 voip server in your windows firewall so the firewall on your machine thats built it does not disable the voip server when you join a server running voip.
You have to go into your root bf2 directory
{install directory eg:c}/Program Files/EA Games/Battlefield 2/BF2VoipServer.exe
If you've never run this before windows will ask you to unblock it or block it. If you have any programs like Norton Internet Security then you definately have the STUPID FIREWALL program. Ditto with that unblock bf2 voip server from running
If it doesnt give you a pop up prompting to unblock that then you can go to.
START/CONTROL PANEL/WINDOWS FIREWALL>second tab *exceptions* and check all that apply.
Ever since i've done this I havent had any issues with VOIP.
I am currently running windows XP professional 64 aka Windows Server 2003 to play bf2 on and to fully utilize my 54 bit processor because I would have to set program affinity in the 32 bit version of windows xp or bf2 would crash to desktop or lose connection 20 minutes after joining a game.
So with this new operating system I've run into a few snafu's but it runs WAY more stable than the 32 bit version of windowsxp. thats for damn sure!
Anyway I hope this helps guys.

Not many really can boris if you talk on ts and then go back to voip then switch constantly your ts will freeze if you have a crappy intigrated sound card.badhq wrote:
u can use TS and VOIP same time
i was having problems with my VOIP in game. it seemed as if my mic would work with other programs but then with BF2 it seemed to go wrong. tried you solution boris but didnt seem to work.
BUT then i noticed that my microphone was muted, so i un-muted it and opened up the game again, then it seemed to work, but then when i loaded a multiplayer game the VOIP didnt seem to work again. so i Alt + Tabbed back to the descktop to find that my Mic was muted again, so again i un-muted it, Alt+Tab back into the game and it worked.
Seems that for some reason when ever i load BF2 it mutes my Mic, then if i un-mute it BF2 will mute it again when i load a map.
so if anyone seems to be having a similar problem and have check that your mic isnt muted before loading BF2, check that it is not muted once you have loaded a map.

i have a mute button on my head set or when i turn my volume all the way down it mutes it anyways. I don't know why its doing that is it usb? Ill find some stuff on it ill try to help you out
Just to add. When attempting Standard Acceleration instead of Basic Acceleration I experienced a crash to desktop everytime it attempted to load a map. Why? I don't know.
However this seems to have worked! The other computer I play on with integrated audio, that VOIP has never worked on, now works! Thanks!!!
BTW Just an observation. Should this go under the Tech Thread area?

Worked for me. Don't know why but it did. Thanks a bunch. By the way, for anyone reading this, the problem I had was that VOIP kept disableing itself.
Mate, if this works then you'll be my biggest hero. I'm the only one in my clan who can't use VOIP. At best it seems to work for about 5 seconds into a game at best before it just seems to stop working again...
Should work then, you were having same problems as me, that fixed it for me, so it should do for you.[BB]Mort wrote:

I've been having a strange issue for about 3 weeks now. I can play BF2 with voip and TS just fine for about an hour(sometimes more sometimes less). At that point all my voice comms fail. TS doesn't even register I'm pressing my PTT button. BF2 doesn't give me the little green/red flashy speaker(though I do get the sound it makes when you talk to the commander, but no icon). Nobody can hear a thing I'm saying.
When I close BF2 miraculously everything works again. I can reload BF2 and play with VOIP and TS again.
I've tried re-installing my sound card drivers. I've tried re-installing directx 9.0c. I've tried dropping acceleration down to basic. I'm fresh out of ideas.
I'm running:
XP Home
Asus P4C800 deluxe mobo
Soundblaster X-fi xtreme music
BF2 1.22 then 1.3
TS2 2.0.32.60

I'm going to move this to the BF2 Help section.
I'm sure this is a great fix and everything, but it doesn't work for me. Plus, I like hardware acceleration, it allows me to use my 5.1 surround sound and EAX. Plus, VOIP always worked for me before, now it doesn't.
My mic works fine on CS, and Teamspeak and whatnot...I don't understand what the heck the deal is here.
EA and Dice need to fix these problems. It is really screwing with gameplay.

I am able to use voip on small servers, 16man, 20man up to 32man approx
then i tried it on a 40 man server, as soon as i get to the kit selection screen i get "There is a problem with your connection" and lose connection.
any ideas, they would be much appreciated.
Spec:
P4 3.2
Nvidia 7600GT
1Gb mem
V.CHEAP pci soundcard
1Mb Tiscali Broadband - ping usually 20-30
Wireless router (tried hard wiring the network - same problem)

My voip in bf2 is very soft, and in ts / ventrilo its fine, I cant disable mic boost, can someone tell me how to get my sound up higher?
I have the same problem. My mic works fine in Ventrilo and all that, but in game everyone tells me they can barely hear me, my mic is very low. In Windows and BF2 options the mic volume is turned all the way up, I cannot figure out why this happens.elmo1337 wrote:

I've tried both of the examples, putting dxdiag into basic acceleration and allowing the VoIP server with windows firewall(I have no other firewall programs).
The problem I've been having is I'll go into options before joining a game, enable VoIP(I even did the set up when I installed the game for the mic) and when I join a server, even one where I'm 100% sure that other people are using VoIP, and VoIP is disabled.
Any help is appreciated.

****..in dxdiag I set to basic, but next time I turn on dxdiag its set back to full.
How should I save what I changed and where?
How should I save what I changed and where?
how do i do the bf2 mic setup??
How do you get VoIP enabled in a server?
I am one of the admin's and am fairly new to RCON.
In our settings, we have Voip enabled but it still doesn't work in the game.
Any idea? Does it have to have a specific port?
pm - email - xfire or reply
Thanks!

hmmm
did what you recommended....still no VOIP for me.
It works in the testing I do in the control panel - and in the VOIP Setup.exe in BF2....
One strange thing....when I test it in the OPTIONS screen in BF2 - SOMETIMES I can get it to work...other times it doesn't....but if I repetitively press the button TEST MIC (or whatever it says) in the in game set up....1 out of 10 times it actually works....when I hit APPLY SETTINGS...it doesn't work again.....

Hmmm I've got the same problem as Tunacommy.
My VOIP have never worked so I reinstalled the entire thing and in the VOIP section of the installation everything worked like a charm.
But when I test it in the hame and in the settings menu, it doesn't even register.
