F.E.A.R is amazing.  One of my friends has it.  I was just watching and got the creeps...although it was 2AM and dark.  The girl and those ghosts near the end...and randomly falling into pools of blood, rooms of fire, etc.  It really is freaky...in a cool way.

That spike gun is awesome!  (double pistols come in handy near the end though)

HL2 was kindof scary the first few mins i played Ravenholm home alone at night, But its really funny when your cheating and throwing the zombies at other zombies with the blue gravity gun.

Yeah. AvP2 handled dark-area distribution better.
Agreed. If they ever make another Aliens vs Predator movie (The one thay made now sucks balls), they should just copy the storyline from the game AVP2. Especially the marine missions really had that 'Aliens' feel.

F.E.A.R. ftw, scariest bit when you hop into a vent and you see the girl running/crawling towards. I emptied about 5 clips till i calmed down. Guess thats what stopped 'fear' from being really scary, if something jumped out at you, you just start firing which helps.

As mentioned by unnamednewbie13 about the other games in particular thief. Id say thief 3 had the scariest level ever, The shalebridge cradle. Anyone who has played the game will know exactley what im talking about

Actually I've only briefly played Thief 1, and none of the others in the series. But I LOVE scary. So tell me about the shalebridge cradle.

About FEAR, you don't know how fucking scary it gets until you've finished it. I don't like people who say "meh, fear was not really scary". FINISH the game, and then say that again. I'm not fucking kidding. The last levels are fucking insane.

Ive played Thief-Deadly Shadows a bit but i don't think it't scary.
I voted FEAR cuz i am afraid of the scenes where the ghosts and halluzinations are, but I Freakin love to fight the bad guys.

well the story behind it is: There was an orphanage, then a little girl was mysteriously killed there, then the orphanage burned down (i think), it was turned into an insane asylum and after that it was abandoned.
Look up any review of the game and everyone of them will have set aside a paragraph talking about how bloody scary it was

"Shalebridge Cradle scared me like you wouldn't believe"- arstechnica game reviews.
"The Cradle justified the £30 T3 price tag for me"- ttl gaming

and so on

well for me, the scariest game ever was 'Alien vs Predator' on an imported Atari Jaguar ...
to the day, i still cant look down vent shafts without flashbacks of utter terror ,

Doom 3, like others have said was just garbage, enter room, lights go out, monster, lights back on repeat zzz
FEAR was fun, but not really scary, however i never played to the end, but shall now do so.

Cant believe no-one has mentioned 'System Shock' series for PC, now thats scary in space etc

I go with F.E.A.R.  Ill be playing it at my lan center or somewhere and ill leave me headset off, so i dont jump when weird shit happend.  Someone watching me play will put the head set on, then ill catch them jumpin outta their seat, or say " WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT"     or "OOOOHH SHIT"

Two games that scared me the most where the first "Doom" and "Resident Evil". I play Doom 14 years ago. In the dark witha headset. Being the first "scary" fps it was pretty intense. Wolfenstien doesn't count lol. I had played "Alone in the Dark" on PC before I had seen "Resident Evil" though AinD wasn't really "scary". It lacked detail.

I'd say Doom 3 would be the scariest, but I was too busy fighting off a headache due to me squinting because that shit was in the dark the whole time.  Only game that would spook me was Resident Evil games... I miss them so...

Holy Crap F.E.A.R. scared the hell out of me at my friends. I walked upto a ladder to climb down, i turn around to start going down and there is that little girl standing infront of me, i just went "WHOW! that was weird" so i started to climb down and when i got to the bottom and turned away from the ladder, she was there infront of me again, and she walked towards me and i litterally jumped and yell "FUCK!" and she turned to ashes and she was gone. :S freaky...

Eternal Darkness...

it was  Nintendo Game Cube only release they had a "insanity meter" or something to that effect..

It really messed with your mind at one point a official looking screen says
"Game error saved memory data lost"

And at that point your already hours into this game... then you snap outta the insane mode and back to the regular game play. Other effects would whispering or moaning (the moaning being the scary zombie gonna eats your brain moaning not a porn movie type moaning) these sounds are done at random times i your "ears" and really makes it a scary pucker factor late at night.

Or you would morph into a creature and limp aound while the game has altered the controller so none of the controller buttons are mapped normally...

I know i am not doing the "mind altering fucked up factor" this game got across. I would recommend trying it out to any Gamecube owners who have not played it yet.

Resident Evil...

first tryed it on the Gamecube again and the part near the begining were the zombie doberman pincers bust through the hallway glass on the stormy lightning filled night... via a full surround sound speaker set up at volume 7 of 10. When it was ACTUALLY raining and thunder/lighting outside in the real world at that moment

well lets just say at that point I was not aware that a "little girl scout" type scream could be generated by myself at such a high pitch whilst simultanously attempted to take a crap and a piss and plot the quickest course to the shotgun down the hallway.

I could never play that game at night after that, nor can i clean the spot on the carpet where this event occured.

Friday the 13th on Nintendo. OMG when Jason pops up outta nowhere and starts to throw those axes at you, now that's scary.

I haven't played FEAR yet maybe I'll pick it up. Doom 3 was scary until you get desensitized by the same scare tactic over and over.

the only thing about F.E.A.R that scared me was the generic storyline and bland gameplay

For me its hl2. I got to Ravenholm, didnt really know what to do here... I played in a dark room after midnight and I was alone in the house. I was near a heart attack, but I frickn didnt want to stop getting terrified by zombies appearing from somewhere.
