I've heard that it may be possible that some Generals may try for a coup, but in all likeliness, nothing will change at all.

troll but fair

All over the internet people are going to be running their mouths about how happy they are he us dead. 99.9 of those people were never affected by the guy and are just bandwagoning since HE WAS A BAD MAN.

Most of that group are the same dumb dumbs that supported The Libyan war for the same reason. Most of them are the same people who talk shit about Bush for Iraq.

Pfff I don't care one way or another about Kim dying. He never did anything to me.

macbeth that's a very, um, 'fruitless' attitude to take towards geopolitics. so mr. hitler didn't do anything to you (note: i am not trying to equate the individuals) when you were sat in new jersey - is that a reason not to care? bit of a silly approach to take, methinks. you're just being the misanthrope contrarian that you thrive on being. nobody can deny that kim jong-il was a despot of the worst kind - multiple politically-neutral human rights organisations have been making noise about him for decades. he was, by all positive evaluations of a political leader, a "bad man". people blindly supporting the libyan war or the bush/iraq thing do so for party-political reasons and are ideologically slanted. i don't think ideology really has, at any point, come into a criticism of THE DEAR LEADER. people didn't criticize him because he was a commie. they criticized him because he put hundreds of thousands of his own people in forced-labour camps, executed political dissidents, entrapped his own population, and caused several large famines through his own ineptitude/unwillingness to diplomatically serve in the interests of his citizens.

My geopolitical views are actually hawkish and I'm okay with interventionism. I'm just saying it's dumb for people to go about spouting how terrible he was and how glad they are he is gone. It's the internet version of partying in front of the white house after Bin Laden was killed.

There are plenty of people nearly as bad as Kim if not worse running countries across the world but you will never hear about them on internet discussion circle jerks because it isn't popular.

I'm just not going to be part of the dumb circle jerk that is going to inventively occur.

i don't think it's a circle jerk to be relieved that one asshole is out of the picture - at least that's something. i do think it's a bit pointless though considering the hermit state is still in nepotistic control and literally nothing will change. i think the tone of most (good) news pieces today is sombre respect for the dead mixed in with a clear and honest awareness of his massive human rights violations.

I don't know if it's weird because they're being paid/commanded to cry or they have lived in such isolation and censorship that they genuinely think he protects their lands from evil etc etc.

I disagree. It was much less than somber reflection by the college kids in front of the white house. The physicality of that is the only difference between this and that.

being paid/commanded to cry? lol. i think you vastly underestimate how ideological NK society is. incomparable to anything in the west, where it's all liberalised and individualised (for better or for worse). these people have spent generations living their lives to an absolute ideological principle: they don't know anything about individual freedom, or liberal principles. for all purposes, NK has been a theocracy, too, with a deity as its head. paid to cry? these people have basically been living in a cult of political personality for decades. it's genuine grief. it's all they know.

wtf are you talking about? "the physicality of that is the only difference"... what the fuck are you on about? news reports today in the uk about his passing are all respectful of the dead (as usual) with awareness of his crimes. mostly geopolitical speculation and leaders about 'what next'. where's the cheering tribulations again? where's the "physicality"?

So were ours about OBL. The reality of how the vast majority of people reacted was much different. That is of course ignoring all of the political cartoons and other crap that popped up in our papers. The only difference between the OBL and the Kim reaction was that the formers death was expressed more physically. People partying and shit. Otherwise the mood and thoughts are the same.

British papers are like Fox and MSNBC in print anyway soo

lol. what the fuck are you on about? british papers are nothing like fox and msnbc. british tabloids, maybe. tabloids are widely regarded somewhere between toilet paper and entertainment by 90% of british people. you'd have to be a serious fox viewer to be able to read one. so i don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

nobody in the uk is partying or acting 'jubilant' that kim is dead. if people in america are, then they have a screw loose. you're talking shit.

paid?
no. They have been raised since they were kids under the idea that kim is actually god (look at his birth stories).
They still think the west is a dark cloudy place where people live under the capitalist regime and sell organs to live. (true story, some of their books and films are fucked up). People don't know what outside looks like and they truely believe/d in kim's power and his greatness.
Its genuine, same thing happened when the other kim died. People under estimate the bubble nkoreans live in.
Its sad and oddly fascinating, because they are the same as me, we share the same language, same history and same traditions.
But they live in a bubble, not far from where i was born and lived.
What the fuck happened to us...
