I've never understood the term "Xmas" anyway. It's still Christmas. I don't really think taking the Christ out of it makes it less offensive to non-Christians. Makes it sound even more like plastic commercialized garbage than it's already become.

i prefer xmas cos it means i can join in on the fun. srs if you add the christ bit it means its for christians (or pretend ones for the holiday period) and therefore im not invitied.  Considering i like free food and booze this isnt going to happen.  I also think xmas was created to pander to us non christians and you'll damn well keep it that way.

ps

thanks for time off work too.  you should really look into having 2 xmas like we do, i'll defo support the cause.

It's a corruption of English. What do you want to call Easter? Xter? Christmas is pretty much one word. You don't have to worship Jesus to eat goose, drink with friends and open presents.

What's the difference between disliking the term Xmas and disliking the term Christmas?

I have a problem with Xmas, you have a problem with Christmas, but here you are calling me OCD and being patronizing about it. I'm done.

Xmas is an abbreviation for Christmas. It is derived from the word ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ, transliterated as Christos, which is Greek for Christ. Greek is the language in which the whole New Testament was written.

Originally, Xmas was an abbreviation where the X represents the Greek letter chi, which is the first letter of Christ's name. However, because of the modern interpretations of the letter X, many people are unaware of this and assume that this abbreviation is meant to drop Christ from Christmas.

edit: Being that I am Roman Catholic, I dont mind either term being used. That said, it does not matter to me one way or the other if the Christmas motiff goes up this year.

I'm sure that's why most people choose to call it Xmas instead of Christmas. Not because it looks more politically correct or anything.

Just posting the proper history of it. I don't care what you call it, so long as you don't impede my ability to celebrate it.

We call them vacations, not holidays. So we go on holiday vacations. And play soccer football.
