Lol I programmed a bot that breaks even without rakeback. With rakeback I can make around $200 per month. But yeah, it's definately possible to make money in poker. It's all about expected value. If you play with positive expected value everytime you play you will make money in the long run.
For example, let's say I flip a coin and if it's heads I'll give you $100 but if it's tails you have to give me $75. You have a 50% chance to win $100 and a 50% chance to lose $75. Do you take this bet? I would because on average you win money. If you play like this on poker over a long term, playing 12 tables at a time, you'll make money pretty quickly.

Depends on how many people are playing. If I'm at a table with 8 people I'll fold anything that isn't great. Let your opponents take each other out and then your odds of winning are better. You are playing against less hands.ruisleipa wrote:
I tend to just wait until I've got a killer hand and then start betting properly, at which point everyone else folds I guess thats not bluffing properly...
Watch the antes though. Sometimes, after awhile, you are forced to play.

Still obviously flawed strategy. You have to decrease the total number of hands you play, not changing the ratio of good:bad hands that you play.Kmarion wrote:

Erm. Are you really suggesting that someone should pick a bad hand every once in a while?Flaming_Maniac wrote:

If you're talking about a tournament, Google mzone. Green mzone = play good hands
Yellow mzone = expand your range of good hands a little
Orange mzone = start taking some risks
Red mzone = you're almost dead, play with/go all-in with any decent hand
Grey mzone = go all-in with anything

It's called limping, don't do it.nukchebi0 wrote:

the odds to win with 2-7 are so high it's never worth it. Unless there are a ton of people playing and the blinds are low, which, well, is unrealistic.nukchebi0 wrote:
Jens, what is your opinion on cards to play pre-flop? I can't really discern a good pattern to use, because a 2-7 off-suit or something ostensibly terrible like that can suddenly become golden with good flop. Though I like folding poor hands, I've been thinking it really makes the most sense to stay in each hand to the flop (provided there is no pre-flop raise.)

The croupier is actually a real croupier from Austria and the whole audience at the movie theater was laughing whenever he said something in his awful English.
