Yeah seriously... What a waste of money.

You do not need a Quad core to photoshop =.=

Get a basic E8500 and a Nvidia 9800GTX and your sister would be fine... Mum's pc can run on your current one as well... No point in upgrading.

As gooners said.

LOL you DEFINATELY don't want to put 1k$ to web PC! slap another HD 5870 to your PC instead.

And you definately won't find i5 cheaper than E5200, mark my words.

And PS runs just fine on E5200.

The stock E5200 fan is fine even if you're overclocking up to 3ghz from 2.5, why would you need a F7P?

Just seems like a waste of money to me unless you're OCing to 3.5/3.75 in which case you're just getting bottlenecked by a small cache anyways, no?

OP: at stock speeds my E5200 was fine for everything in the CS4 suite-everything ran smoothly and quickly, and most of my work was in AE. It oc's beautifully as well so there's really no better processor for those needs..

What is the main difference in performance between a 4770 and a 4850? iirc the 4770s are fairly new but they're both around the same price now, with the 4850 @ about $10 more.

The stock cooler is decent enough in terms of temperatures. But god it is bad in terms of noise. Not to talk about I have had 3 stock coolers that have started to resonade and make absolutely terrible noise after a few months use. Even surpassing the loud as hell HD 2900XT cooler in me friends rig.

The OP was putting i5 to net pc, I don't think a 20 buck investment in quality cooler is out of his budget range and certainly is going to make using the PCs more pleasant.

HD 4770 is 40nm, runs cooler, needs less power and is quieter than the old HD 4850. Performance wise HD 4770 is just on the heels of HD 4850.

Yeah, while everyone else in the US is losing their jobs (myself included) and we are in the middle of a economical crisis, your parents want to drop $5k on some new puters? That is a wise financial decision my friend.

Believe me, I understand the excitement of building a new PC, I would love to upgrade mine with an i7, and a better GPU, and sometimes I look on newegg for parts and see how much it will cost, but right now it is just not an option, too many other things that need money spent on.

So I looked at the suggestions and I think this is more like what we may get:

Me-
i7
6GB RAM
GTX 275 (and eventual upgrade just before BF3 if a 275 is not enough for high settings)
500 GB Caviar Black
HAF 932/922
23" LCD

Sister-
e5200
500 GB Caviar Black
4GB RAM
4770
CM 590/690
Freezer 7 Pro(mostly for the quality over the stock cooler)

Mom-
e5200
500 GB Caviar Black
4GB RAM
4650/4670
CM 590/690
Freezer 7 Pro(mostly for the quality over the stock cooler)

Can anyone reccomend these things:
Wireless router
Wireless cards compatible with Vista/7 x64
External HDD for backup(looking @ this currently: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … -_-Product mostly because I like how it looks)

And how would I go about setting it up so all comps would back up to External HDD through wireless network? And maybe printing through network as well(hoping to use HP 1410v for a while at least, if possible)

Honestly, you don't really need the aftermarket coolers. In the old days, yes, stock coolers sucked big ass, but now they are pretty decent, so if they are not going to be overclocking, the stock cooler is fine, even though the aftermarket is not that expensive. But it seems that you have some money to blow, so do whatever you want.
I have used Intels 5 latest stock coolers and they still suck.

e: in fact the latest C2D coolers are the worst. Half the size of the old C2D stock coolers.

just get a 5870 or 5850 if it is in your budget, if your initial builds are anything to go by. there is absolutely no reason to get a 275 then upgrade in a little.
Hell if your initial budget is anything to go by get 2 5870s

Ah, I was curious since I'm running an E5200 and the stock fan...I didn't realize the F7P ran quieter and come to think of it this stocker is quite noisy :S

I actually put a 4770 in a comp I built for my brother when it came out...about a week after we built it the 4850 (which I have and love) dropped significantly in price so I was just wondering how badly I should be kicking myself D:

My sister will be going into High School next year, and she is going to want to use Photoshop and stuff like that for art type classes, so I figured a quad core would be good for that down the road.
That computer is a perfect email/browser computer.  Save some money and keep it.

Your sister seems like she'd be better off with a MacBook.  If you're already willing to spend your parent's money so freely, get her a lappy so she can run all the art programs she needs plus have easy wireless access and mobility.  It's a much better idea than having her strapped to the desktop.

shhh.

I've used Wireless-G for years and once our G router died last summer I grabbed an N router (had an N card since the antenna is epic long/huge) and it's been perfectly fine.

Sure I don't always get rape dl speeds but it's perfectly fine for games and it's still decent speeds for good sites.

And yeah if you don't get your sister a laptop you're a huge dick.

She tells me she doesn't really want a mac.

And we could get a Windows laptop with similar(almost identical) hardware for less.

She would like a desktop as well for a larger screen and the fact that it's faster than a laptop most of the time.

edit: wireless would be for automatically backing up HDD and printing with all computers with only one printer.(hopefully)

^Just trying to save you some headaches.  Building three separate systems means you'll have three separate headaches, and having your mother and sister relying on you for tech support and to fix any errors.  A mac or comparative laptop would equal less of a headache. (Most of the time)

I find it hard to believe that somebody who is interested in Photoshop isn't interested in a Mac...

Insta-boner

I reckon your mother could get away with a laptop and a mouse... That way she can take it wherever she wants in the house. She doesnt need 4 gigabytes of RAM for christsake.
Your sister could probably get away with the computer you're getting, but down a notch.

Ive got an E6600, 2GB RAM and a GTX260 as my main, and I still get everything on high. Seems like you're going a bit over the top, tbh.

So I was looking and thinking about the suggestions, and this is what I came up with:
Mom:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6834146583
Sister:
e5200
500 GB Caviar Black

Or: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … _-83103218
(She really doesn't go anywhere anyway and we could get a laptop for her as well at some point in the near future probably)

Maybe this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6834220582 or something else...

Me-
i7
6GB RAM
HD 5850/HD 5870/GT300
500 GB Caviar Black
HAF 932/922

I did a build in a 690 a couple weeks back. Let me tell you it is huge, dont get me wrong, its a great gaming case, and supports expansion well and awesome for a pure gaming computer, but not for a net crusing-lite gaming comp. Try something smaller and nicer for her, maybe a:
LIAN LI Lancool PC-K7B
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811112154
SILVERSTONE PS02B Black Aluminum
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811163126
NZXT HUSH Black
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811146035
If she wants something colorful and funky, maybe one of these:
GMC Toast, not a high performance cooling case by any means, but a cool looking light gamer, browser case.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi … =0&y=0
If you do decide on one of these, remember, there is only room for one optical drive and 2 HDD.

OH and you should include what power supply you want, they are more important than you might think.
