Here's a tip. Nothing. They both shoot one round per squeeze of the trigger. They are semi-automatic rifles. The hunting rifle actually is higher caliber and will do more damage to a human target.
You can not buy automatic weapons off the shelf here in America no matter what your ignorant friends or media might have told you.

It would appear you have nailed me on gun knowledge... it's not my strong suit I'll admit. I've never fired a gun in my life and if I'm lucky I'll never have to. I guess I must have assumed the M-16 style weapons fire continuously having grown up on a diet of the A-Team (damn TV lying to me again!).JohnG@lt wrote:

A ban on automatic weapons is sensible, I'm glad that exists in the US as there really is no need for such weapons in normal society. I still wouldn't want semi-automatic or non-automatic (if that's the term) weapons in my society either though... it's hard for the average Joe to get guns in this country, I like that.
Semi-automatic just means that a single bullet is fired every time the trigger is pulled and the next round is chambered by the bolt sliding back to the rear. A revolver also falls into this category even though the action is different.Braddock wrote:

Automatic means the weapon will fire until either the magazine runs out or the person removed their finger from the trigger. The US military no longer has automatic versions of it's 'assault rifles' as it was deemed a waste of ammo. Only dedicated machine guns like the M249 SAW or the M240 are fully automatic man portable weapons.
A bolt-action, which is strictly limited to rifles, requires the bolt to be pulled to the rear manually in order to chamber the next round. With a good user the time it takes to reload is neglible. Most shotguns fall into this category as well as they require a pumping action.
As for difficulty in getting weapons, we have that as well. You must get licensed and show proficiency before you are allowed to purchase one. The problem is with ignorant 'do-gooders' who are afraid of all guns and continuously try to ban them here. They completely ignore the fact that a person who is willing to jump through hoops in order to own a weapon is not their enemy. The person purchasing a weapon on the street illegally is their enemy just as it is in every single country that has banned weapons.

Yes to both. Handguns are banned in NYC too but it hasn't stopped handgun crime. I'm currently in the market for a shotgun to use for home protection (and for fun).Cybargs wrote:

its much easier to get firearms in some states than others. I had a 3 day waiting period for mine in texas and only because nothing showed up on my background check in 3 days. Most thorough background checks take longer than 3 days with all the back logs.

well i was going to post but john said everything better than i could
so.... what he said
also, here they can reject your PAL (possession acquisition licence) if they feel you shouldn't have one.... even if you pass the background checks
the #1 cause of firearm related death here is suicide by a very VERY large lead
followed by homicide (which the stats don't distinguish between criminal on criminal activity, and a criminal vs innocent)
and then accidents
alcohol is a bigger threat to our national safety than guns tbh

John, a quick nit-pick--the hunting rifle pictured is bolt action, not semi-auto.
The argument still holds, as many hunting rifles are semi-auto. AR-15s/AR-10s are becomming more popular for hunting. Good ergonomics, low recoil, low weight, and high mechanical accuracy make for excellent hunting rifles.

ar-15s are classed as restricted here.... so no hunting with them for us
I picked up a Russian Mosin Nagant at a gun show. A little paper work, a background check, and I was out with the rifle in 45 minutes.eleven bravo wrote:

If it wasn't for Illinois gun laws. I wouldn't of had my first gun I got for Christmas returned and I would be trained on operating a gun. Now the army is my answer to ever firing a gun in life.RAIMIUS wrote:

Come to the US. Just stay away from Illinois, Massachusetts, California, and Hawaii.
The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.
I would have thunk there be more breech loaded then pump. Not in the military of course, but civilian use.JohnG@lt wrote:

AR-15? I got mine when I was 16. It had a .22 upper. Then I got a 5.56 upper.War Man wrote:

golt there is a massive difference between a bolt action and a gun with a magazine, even if they are both automatic. I can still gun down 16 people in 5 seconds with a semi auto m16 I cant with a bolt action.
he fixed it
Here in FL if you have a CWP, you can walk out with your gun day of purchase. LEO's are kinda pissy about that (cause if they don't have a permit then they have to wait 5 days) -and many go aout and get a CWP for that reason alone.eleven bravo wrote:

True, however he was in a high vantage point with plenty of time, if I had as much time to fire as him and had 5 mags for an m16, a lot more people would have been hurt. So there is a difference.JohnG@lt wrote:
