I'm curious, and this is an open question is american society a violent one?
it varies wildly depending on what area you're in I guess.... my country is bad enough now that if you beat someone after they break into your home and attack you, they'll try and charge you with assault
i have a sign on the back door that says
"By gaining forceful entrance of this residence you accept the risks of severe bodily harm and or death"
the last time the police were out here for my drunk piece of shit neighbours they thought it was pretty funny lol
when i hear shit at night i do 4 things
1 get flashlight (next to my bed)
2 get shotgun from closet
3 get phone for possible police call (also next to my bed)
4 wait a few minutes
if nothing happens and my dogs don't start going batshit insane, i check the windows and doors and go back to bed
not far from here a woman was attacked with a broken bottle after coming home to find a drugged up homeless guy ripping her house apart
when dealing with people who would be just as happy to stab you to death as they would to walk by you in the street... force is necessary
although i do see where you're coming from, just blasting someone away the moment you see them is something i hope i wouldnt do... but once the adrenaline starts going who can really know unless they've done it before?
and the term deadly weapon is very vague
a pencil could be a deadly weapon, a chair leg, fork, kitchen knife, pool cue, anything.
at what point does something stop being just an object and cross into the "deadly weapon" category?
to me nothing is a weapon until it is used as such
