Well either get a lock that actually stops them or don't waste the money on a pointless security measure. A lock that doesn't prevent people from breaking in has what purpose? I can see how you would get the idea that we treat our Muslims like they own the place (to be honest, there are so many Arabs in London that I guess it's not too far from the truth). But we do not appease criminals. There are a lot of measures in place against criminals. It's just that it's stupid to padlock a wooden shed - if someone wants to get in, he'll break down the door or something. So just leave it open, so that at least the shed is intact, and you don't have to replace it. Doesn't seem at all strange to me. Either do that, or get a new, better shed.

I don't think it's necessarily appeasement. Just advice that there is a better way.

Police have advised the use of alarms, and closed shackle padlocks to secure locks and bolts, as these are more difficult to bolt crop.

Alternatively, shed owners should consider using combination padlocks and bolts as well as chaining and locking valuable items together

Truth is, the only thing locking anything does is keep an honest man honest. If a criminal wants to steal something bad enough, they will find a way.

The appeasement factor comes in when you take the attitude that it is EASIER and less painful to let them take it, than it is to find a way to catch them or prevent them from doing so. Pretty much not even attempting to keep an honest man honest.
