The Right Stuff.
Mission Control got a warning that the heat shield was loose and only being held on by the retro rocket straps. They didn't tell him the whole problem, they just advised the he leave the retro rockets on during the entire re-entry, with no reason why. The retro rocket straps burned off in re-entry, and if the warning wasn't a false alarm he would have been dead.Madhadda1 wrote:
