I was however surprised by how good the USA/CAN womens teams were from what little I watched. Skill wise some players were basically right there with the men, but they seemed to get lost way more often... Just really never look to have nearly the same flow/speed/sense of the game.War Man wrote:
USA vs Slovakia men's hockey game was great to watch. After watching it, I remembered why I don't like women's hockey very much, men's hockey is just more exciting.
USA looked fucking good against Slovakia... I mean, yeah harder teams ahead but first game out they played VERY well together and really looked to have chemistry. I was surprised how many nice little moves like that drop pass for the first goal they were making, considering how short a time they have been playing together.
A little worried about Quick and the width of the ice... But he only let in 1 goal, on a missed offsides call, while being screened and the shooter cut back to shoot against his momentum and took a real nice shot.
Game against Russia should be interesting. Putin should be there, hopefully not with with a murder squad and photographs of the refs families.
I guess I have gotten so used to newer windows that I did didn't even think about it... mint didn't look to much like windows...
But yeah I can see why people say that. Probably part of why I like it too tbh.
But all the desktop environments I tried had something very annoying.
Can't remember what put me off KDE... Unity was unity (though I actually don't hate it). Gnome 2 looks pretty dated and gnome 3 is too mac-y and no minimize button?
Mint 13 w/cinnamon has been good. Seems classic, but not old and has been very stable.

I have talked a bit of shit about the linux in the past, but for some reason ever few years I feel like I should give it another go.
I have always supported the fact that windows works fine. I still maintain that windows 8 is no where near as bad as people say... damn near windows 7 with stupid overbearing start menu...
Anyways, my computer's specs aren't as impressive as they used to be, and while I don't mind win 8 I no longer feel much loyalty to windows.
Reading about android made it time to try it again.
Went through a good number of distros, but finally settled on Mint 13 LTS with cinnamon. Really liking it.
Really helped that this time I read good bits of "The Linux Bible" which went a long way to help get settled.
I've found the most up to date release of linux break to fucking easily. If you don't mind an active role in keeping your computer running go for it... But as a newb still all of them ended up having nagging issues relatively soon.
This mint LTS has been REALLY stable. Could damn near give this to my mother. Nothing too crazy but a decent amount of customization... I hate the default green theme but with some tweaks it clean and simple.
I don't play many games these days, so I find that I almost always load linux.... its just a little quicker in most situations. Really like the options, and how transparent the OS is. Lots of nice little things, right click a window title bar and chose always on top...
The more I read the more I like the idea and community as well. Nice that so many people can pull together selflessly for a common good like that. Particularly interesting that the origins of the OS can be traced back to message board postings.
Funny to see decades old posts from linus torvalds basically talking shit to people, such as when he was criticized and asked why GIT was't written in C++ when it was so clearly better, and he responds if for no other reason then to piss off people like the author of the question it was worth it.
But I guess, bottom line.... Its come a long fucking way.
If you have tried it and given up, or dismissed it entirely give it an honest try and do some reading on how it works and how to propperly set it up, rather then just copying and pasting some random command starting with "hashtag sudo something something" that wont make your printer work... Actually learn what a modprob is and how to modify your path, check logs and configure your .bashrc file...
Its like anything else, a lot of options can mean easy to break, but if you learn what your doing its a pretty nice environment to be in.
Fuck that was long, even if no one read it...still Guinness.

After reading through the last few pages, someone has to say it... is life so terrible for the lot of you that you feel the need to escape it? I'll never understand it.
Because the fact is... Drugs exist in real life. They are part of it. They are something you with some of the time of your life.
Really all "life" is is you living, being alive.
Is life so bad that you need to surround yourself with loved ones to deal with it?
Is life so bad you need video games to keep you entertained?
Is life so bad you need to go outside or do anything other then simply sit and enjoy living?
I don't understand the question... Is life so bad that I need to find something to occupy part of it? Nope, but life IS more fun if you spend it doing enjoyable things. Just make sure to maintain a balance and consider the long term too.
Fortunately all the times I have chosen to take drugs I was living the whole time. Except that one time in highschool I stayed home "sick", as some shrooms and went back to napping in bed. Not entirely sure about that time.

Kinda a no brainer that mind altering substances aren't for the developing mind....
But studies like that are not really a fair representation either, regardless of its effect on the developing mind (And I would not try to argue that there is none)... Marijuana users are not a fair cross section of society, so comparing the success or intelligence of marijuana users to those who do not use is not fair.
I bet a similar study could be done with top ramen noodels. Study a large group of children through their lives, I bet that you would find less mental development and intelligence in those who regularly eat cup o' soup or other canned foods... Does this mean Spaghetti O's hinder mental development?
The actual danger/problems aside, societies view of cannabis is what it is and from youth children are taught to "say no to drugs". It would make sense that those who are prone to listen to their teachers and parents, take an active role in their own development and focus making positive life decisions would be more likely to follow the message to stay away from drugs and alcohol... and that those who live carelessly and do what they feel like would be more likely to experiment with drugs and less likely to focus on studies.
Again, this is not to claim that there are no negatives to marijuana, just that this type of study really has some pretty big outside factors that make the numbers not necessarily valid.

He is really not the play it safe go to the hospital type... But he said the guy he got them from wasn't a very close friend, and while he didn't expect it he could have seen the guy who gave him from trying to pull some kind of "joke".... The doctors said he was just really really high so he went home and waited for it to be done.
lichanura, you are probably right about people who don't like it being people who have over done it...
However I still enjoy the high from smoking or vaping more, and I enjoy smoking/vaping.
They are a novel idea, but figuring out dosage is a pain with some potentially uncomfortable ramification for getting it wrong... It takes so fucking long to kick in and when it does I still would prefer to smoke it over eating, and the high is better smoking...
So yeah, I still like the idea, still occasionally think they would be cool but I know they are not really for me. Shit tons of hassle from making to taking.
Fairly efficient way of getting THC though, if you know what your doing and keep things under control.

Nothing more disappoint than when your connect doesn't pull through. Tried getting some cookies last night and the guy never got back to my friend
If you end up getting some then be careful and start out with a small piece and wait like an hour until you know how strong it is. Some edibles will have you high for like a full day and you'll be so messed up you're head will be spinning, puking/dry heaving, etc.
THEY CAN FUCK YOU UP. No joke, really not to be taken lightly... not fun or funny.
But you also have to know how to make them.
I had tried them a few times... random home made shit as well as getting stuff from dispensaries. They always seemed to take for ever to kick in, and you would get bored... then smoke... then be high... Never got the point of the edible at that point. Most bud tenders would say they smoke a bowl after eating too, but that it was real nice with the edible. For me it was never even noticeable.
I decided to try making some my self, or at least to read up on it. Read a whole bunch, got a crock pot to slow cook butter in and mentioned it to a friend. He threw a couple bags (full sandwich bags) of the worst weed I have ever seen at me and said "Here, get rid of this"
I decarbed the shake in a toaster oven, cycling the power on and off to hold it at 150 for an hour or two.. threw the shake and butter in crock pot and let it simmer for a few hours. Threw the whole lot in the freezer to solidify, then mashed it up, then heat it again for a few more hours crock pot on lowest setting for both cycles...
Strained out the plant material with cheese cloth (squeeze the shit out of the pulp to recover all liquid butter) and leave the butter to cool and solidify.
Then I baked very buttery cookies using only the cannibutter.
Tasted a little bad, but bearable.
Ate one regular sized cookie... went for a bike ride to speed up the metabolism... Nothing. Ate another when I got home.
Then they started kicking in.
Fuck. Second was a huge mistake. Not even really an enjoyable high at that point. Never even knew weed could do that much... way more then just smoking, at some point smoking you really don't get noticeably higher, but this was much much more.
Worst part of it is, that similar to drinking, your body apparently knows that the intoxicant is in your stomach because I felt nauseous as fuck. I basically sat in a chair waiting for it to be over feeling too shitty to move for a few hours until my stomach felt decent enough to go to bed. I felt like shit and wanted to smoke a bowl, but didn't want to get any higher.
Tried only one later... Got me fucked... Not as bad but I think it was a bit like trying to drink after a night of over doing it. Ended up giving almost all of the rest of the cookies away.
Told my older brother who used to fuck around with a decent range of drugs through highschool, was not a heavy user of anything hard... but tried most stuff. He was like "Oh yeah, some edibles are no joke..." and told me the story of when he went to the hospital thinking he was ODing on a laced edible because he had smoked so much weed before, but THC had never been like that.
It seems like most people suck at making edibles. Decarbing (preheating the herb) helps efficiency a lot, and I think most people burn off THC letting temps get too high. When you get one that is made right.... its no joke. I think marijuana should be legal, but honestly.... Somehow maybe edibles shouldn't? lol (but seriously)
I'd much rather smoke/vape tbh.

The portable ones are in general about as expensive as the desktop units.... Except the Magic flight launch box._j5689_ wrote:
Did you use one of the big expensive ones or did you use a portable one?
Which, tbh is kinda shit.
It has a HUGE following and rightfully so, its fucking tiny and insatiably discreet. For stealth portability its about tops... but part of that is that it doesn't produce very fat clouds of vapor (at least in comparison with other popular portables.) so you trade some ease of use and big hits for something you could damn near use next to a cop.
Vapes are not hugely complex.... But for some reason the cheap ones never quite work as well as the ones from reputable manufacturers... Its good to spend at least a reasonable amount on a quality unit. Don't need a led filled device made as cheaply as possible for you to heat up and breath off...
I like my extreme Q a bit... I just about never use bags, they are some what of a novelty.... A whip or stem tastes better and lets you get hits at lower temperatures (since bags = many hits mixed together and only so much vapor is produced at lower temps, and the best flavors are released early).
Since I pretty much only use whip, I almost got a Da Buddah vape... But I had a EQ before that was stolen, so I already had a bunch of accessories for it. Its a big plus that it uses standard 18mm glass on glass joins, and comes with a few so you can hook it up to a bong easily right out of the box.
The DBV should be on and ready faster, comes with nice case and is a solid unit. Digital temp controls are somewhat over rated as units vary slightly, and different models/brands place the temperature sensor in different locations so temperature readings are not the temp of the weed, and can vary based on how the manufacturer decides to measure temp.

I had this a bit with roms that had kernals that fucked with clock speed for battery life. No problems now (using fairly polished roms), but when most of the Gingerbread/sense roms were still frequently coming out with new bug fixes I had this issue a lot. At least with the thunderbolt I found a few threads on google relating to minimum clock speeds of like 285 or whatever, where the stock was in the 300... it would cause freezes and could be fixed by increasing the minimum clock speed. Shitty explination, and maybe not your problem... but if it happens again/more look into minimum clock speeds used by both your and the stock kernal, and think about increasing them to see if it solves the issue.Roger Lesboules wrote:
