According to Dice, an expansion pack set for release for Spring 2006 for Battlefield 2 for PC is now being split into two booster packs to be sold ONLINE ONLY. Very interesting...

I highly doubt they would sell it exclusively online. As they said they would satisfy both consumers and retailers.

So 1 in 10 copies of special forces were sold online, and because of that they are only making the next expansion available online? typical of EA/Dice's mentality.

I for one wont be buying it if its online download only.

Me either... I want real copy with real and cool covers and with printed DVD and manual on paper (even I won't use it). I can pay that 10 or 15 euros extra for that, it's just money and that's what you get from work. But I think that they will release those expancions normal way too because online salary was still just 10 %. They don't want to loose that 90 % so they must release it as normal way. But idea of that message in my opinion was that they want told that they will release that expansion(s) at online too and with lower price so they won't loose that 10 % of customers either. So if it's so, we all can select either normal way with cool cover etc. and cost little extra money (as I will) or if it's not so important to get that "cool" stuff it will be also possible to buy it online and safe some money and that's good thing I think.

It would make more business sense to offer it as $10 over the internet and $20 through a retailer so they can reach more consumers rather than make it soley available over the internet.

Booster pack? Man that kind of blows, sure new guns, maps and vehicles... but when is that Game Type thing gonna change? In SF, I was kind of hoping to see at least like... "Assassination" or "Capture the Flag" or "Last Man Standing" kind of thing... when is that gonna happen?

yeah, i'm guessing we'll just have to wait until spring of '06 to see what they do.

I also think they should've just left it as one expansion pack, but that's just my opinion.

Man this is EA Games. They're gonna do this and treat it just like any other franchise they've made. With the Sims it was making multiple expansion packs, how many can we count up to. 7? They're gonna do the same thing with their newer franchise, The Sims 2 with, as they promised, an expansion pack to be released every 6 months. They did the same thing to Command & Conquer: Generals. They're doing it to Battlefield 2 now and I doubt they'll stop there LOL

Agreed. What if you only buy 1 booster? It'll probably be hard to find servers to play on that ONLY have your booster's maps in rotation.

Or worse, if there's only like 3 maps for each booster, and the server must play ONLY those maps (like you can't mix SF and vanilla BF2 maps on a server...) that'll get boring quick.

Actually I think there's 8 if you count Sims Online...

And let's not forget the Deluxe, Double Deluxe, Super Hyper Mega Stupendous Deluxe editions which included more crap than the sum of the expansions included in the pack, so you had to buy those if you wanted it all...

I am a stupid consumer. I got more value from the 40 + 20 BF2 & Special Forces time, than damn near any other form of entertainment. 60 dollars, is about 1.5 movie trips for me and my GF. Now, I have almost 400 hours of play for 60 dollars. 6.6667 hours of play for a dollar. A movie that lasts an hour and a half will cost me roughly 30 dollars when it's all said and done. So.... I will buy both packs, because I think they are values, even with new crap every six months.

Yeah that's the sad part, me too man, me too LOL. As long as the game feels somewhat true to me but if there's so much of it to be involved, with having to consider more lingo, like today I just learned that traditional BF2 is called vanilla? Hm... seems to make me think of what the future is gonna be like. What's SF gonna be called down the road? Strawberry?

I happen to have some inside info about one (or maybe both) "booster" packs. And I must say, it sounds good. Really good, I think everyone will like it.
