Well, I just had a little chat on another server irc://irc.mozilla.org/ worked just fine...

So either freenode has a problem with me, or the University campus has a problem with freenode and not with mozilla...

Untill I find a sound answer, it'll be just posting for me

Am I the only one facing some serious problems with freenode?
I used other servers and their channels: no prob
I used other server to connect to bf2s: won't work

Are they still facing those problems? (the news is 5 days old...)

Oh thanks... that confirms it... I'vebeen surfing the web, and I could only find a five day old new that freenode has a few spamming bots up their ass...
Was starting to believe the IT of my department was closing down my connection.

But I am not alone

No seriously, I've tried every trick in the book and only freenode is not working... So either, the university campus resets the specific connections with freenode (and freenode only) or freenode still has a big problem.

Ps.: unless you have other suggestions, these worked:
Two other irc servers moznet and webbnet ( tested two channel each)

did not work
irc.freenode.net
chat.freenode.net
chat.eu.freenode.net
with or without connecting to a specific channel BF2s and another, all reset my connection...

Thus the problem is rather focussed...

The only thing I can test more is another web connection, which I might try it later at home as well.

So either the genuis of the IRC lamp is going to grant me a few wishes or... Tu peut toujours continuer sans moi... Mais tu pouvait ça toujours naturellement

I've got no problems whit either the channel or server.. only when I'm at school - the wireless network sucks there..

irc channel is basically a chatroom like thing.  check out the wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat

HOW TO GET ON IRC
A 5 STEP GUIDE TO THE WORLD OF IRC

1) Download & Install an IRC Client

For this tutorial we will be using silverex, a free client based on XChat.  Download and install silverex at their website http://www.silverex.org/news/

heres a few more clients:
-xchat (*nix): http://www.xchat.org/
-mirc (windows, piece of crap software that requires registration..): http://www.mirc.com/
-trillian (windows) http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/
-chatzilla (firefox addin) https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/m … .php?id=16
-opera (browser w/irc support) http://www.opera.com/

2) Run XChat (silverex)

3) Configure XChat

A server list should pop up the first time you run XChat.  If it does not select "Server List" from the "XChat" menu.
Under "User Information" enter in a username, and two alternate choices incase your nickname is already taken.  Enter in two more names in "User name" and "Real name".  These identify you to the server for administration purposes.

To connect to the bf2s server & channel scroll down the networks list and select "FreeNode".  Once FreeNode is selected hit "Edit".  The only options you should be concerned with for the moment are "Auto connect to this server on startup" and "Channels to join".  If you wish to automatically connect to the server when you start XChat select "Auto connect to server on startup".  Channels are different "chat rooms" on each server.  To connect to the bf2s channel enter "#bf2s" in the "Channels to join" list.


4) Connect to FreeNode

Once you've configured everything to your liking select FreeNode from the server list and hit connect.  A bunch of mumbo-jumbo information will scroll by your XChat window.  Once it has connected to the server and joined the bf2s channel it should say "You are now talking on #bf2s".


5) Start Talking!

You can now talk by entering text into the bar at the bottom of the window beside your name.
