I think this may go under "Help", but I'm kinda in a rush...my desktop is 1024x768, and my BF2142 screen is 800x600...does the screen resolution make the game performance any better or is it just there to make the screen look big?

Higher resolution shows more detail so the game looks better and you spot things better...plus higher res is more accurate with placement of the cross hairs

Very brief ...due to you being in a rush.....!!!

I would guess that the lower screen res would improve game performance as the GPU has to deal with less pixels per frame than a higher res.

If you wanna find out for yourself, set your res to 800x600 then while in game open the console (usually the key next to '1') and type in renderer.drawfps 1

See what fps you get.

Then do all that again for 1024x768 res and see what you get.

Alternatively you could download and install fraps and that will also give you your fps.

also depends on the type of monitor you have as well. better monitor better performance = duh

This may also be useful

For example, one of the most commonly requested commands is to run BF2 in 1280×1024 resolution (or another custom resolution) - particularly for LCD displays which display the best image at their native resolution. To do this, change your command line to look like this:

    *
      “C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe” +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

and this also works in 2142?

I would love to play this game at 1680 x 1050 if that works.

thanks

Hmmm, I thought you couldn't run 2142 at 1280x1024?

How the hell do you do that?

Unfortunately that's a widescreen resolution and while the game does scale the models and world accordingly for that, the UI and HUD will be stretched.
In other words, it would work, yes. In-game won't look stretched on your monitor, aside from the HUD and menus. The models and everything else won't be stretched! Which is a good thing.

I question whether it's worth the trouble, however. I wish EA and its studios would get off their asses and start including widescreen resolutions in their PC games. Unfair advantage my ass. Allow letterboxing of 4:3 resolutions (with the HUD in the black areas) to include a wider FOV and that should eliminate any advantage.
