The Swiss Vatican Guard!

They have never invaded any country, nor have they ever been abused of by some vicious dictator.

Are we on about standard Army or special forces, not that it matters British army all the way.

1, SAS - special air service
2, SBS - special boat service
3, Gurkha's
4, Parachute regiment
And although not part of the army more the navy
5, Royal marines
Nice for you to say that but to say the RM are more navy then army would get you a hard time in the forces over here lol .

Gurha's are probable the hardest trained out of all the UK forces and the debate between RM and Para's on who is the best will go on for-ever but for me the SAS own it .

UK Forces ftw
The Royal Navy's own amphibious infantry are the Royal Marines, acknowledged as one of the world's elite fighting forces.

This is straight from the Royal navy website http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/server/show/nav.2566

No.

US army and Australian Army. Canada just screws around too much, and I don't think a bunch of boy scouts could be called an army.
The US army are being shown a lot of 'respect' in Iraq aren't they? Things like Abu Ghraib tend to preclude you from attending 'most respected army' award ceremonies.
running away from fights doesn't usually garner much respect

On a political level, making the right choice garners respect. Let's hope the Dems do the decent thing and pull out. The individual soldiers (those not involved in Abu Ghraib, Haditha, etc.) deserve respect sure but the bad deeds of a few have tarnished the image of the whole unfortunately. Hence my selection of Canada.

I'd say this is pretty respectable.

This little girl's entire family was executed.  They intended to execute her also, and shot her in the head, but they failed to kill her.  She was cared for by John's hospital and is healing up, but has been crying and moaning.  The nurses said John is the only one she seems to calm down with, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both sleep in that chair.  The girl is coming along with her healing.

Cheers for the complete lack and respect and insults. The politicians have ulterior motives not the soldiers...
Also no country on earth has more training for their soldiers than America.

I think alot of armys in the world are quite good.

Firstly, it's not usually they who make them invade countries and do stupid things, it's usually the government. It's been like that for a very very long time.

Secondly, just becuase a few individuals screw things up and go bonkers and kill/rob/maim civilians doesn't mean the whole military does it. It aint fair to the ones that are there doing what they're doing honestly. In my opinon, the ones who go bonkers ought to be killed for treason (you heard me!), seeing as, by killing civilians etc..there making it really so much harder for their comrades....plus the whole killing/maiming thing in the first place is totally out of order.

Anyway, i'll just jump into the bandwagon and say my army is the best army. To make things easier for the lesser minded people here. >_>

i fail to see how abandoning an entire nation to fend for itself against well armed and funded anarchists, many of them outsiders, not actual insurgents, is the right thing to do, why do i have a sneaking suspiciion that had we done that immediately after deposing saddam those that critiscize us for staying would be critiscizing us for leaving.

The bad deeds of a few have not tarnished the image of the whole for me.  Only if one labels the whole armed forces by the deeds of a few can you come to that conclusion.  Those who choose to take such a stance prove their initial bias against the US military.  I have family that's served and friends that are currently in the Marines.  I respect no one more than them for their bravery.

the whole reason those things made the news were that they are the exception, not the rule, abu ghraib was an excellent display of the remaining power of the highly biased media, nothing near torture, in fact some of it is SOP in the event of prison riots, but you can't rely on the public to educate themselves on such mattters. so the pentagon had to throw lindy to the dogs.

I'm struggling to figure out how this topic is even capable of fielding fair answers?  Who has intimate enough knowledge of the workings of 2, 5, or even 10 different armies?  I've seen cool US army commercials, and I've played their games (America's Army and Full Spectrum Warrior), and of course I've known plenty of US army people.  But with that limited understanding, and from the press...how do i rate their "respect" quality?

And what is meant by "most respected?"  respected by the world?  respected by me?  respected among their military peers?
