Lincoln would have my vote as top. I truly believe without him this nation would have been permanently divided.
The Top 25
1. Ronald Reagan was President during an economic turnaround and the final years of the Cold War.

I'm not American but I have no problems with Muhammed Ali being on the list, however as for Lance Armstrong being named America's "Greatest Athlete"? well I dunno, yes he was an amazing athlete who over came testicular cancer and won again, but, I would have to say America's greatest athlete is without a shadow of a doubt Jesse Owens and it's a fucking disgrace he's not even mentioned on the list - I mean come on! a black man who went to Nazi Germany and broke five that's FIVE!! world records, and, humiliated Hitler? deserves the mantle of "Greatest Athelete" in my book

My vote would have been for Ben Franklin or Teddy Roosevelt. I really can't think of two better Americans.

Anyone overcoming a deadly illness and winning the top event in that sports field 7 times is amazing to say the least. The work he does to fight cancer and it's victims exceeds his own situation as well. He continues to raise money and support to fight cancer.

Lance Armstrong (born Lance Edward Gunderson on September 18, 1971 in Plano, Texas) is a retired American professional road racing cyclist. He has won the Tour de France, professional cycling's most prestigious race, a record seven consecutive times from 1999 to 2005. In doing so, he beat the previous record of five consecutive wins, held by Miguel Indurain and five non consecutive wins shared by Miguel Indurain, Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx and Jacques Anquetil. This feat was accomplished several years after brain and testicular surgery, and extensive chemotherapy in 1996, to treat testicular cancer that had metastasized to his brain and lungs.
In 2002, Sports Illustrated magazine named him Sportsman of the Year. He was also named Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year for 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, received ESPN's ESPY Award for Best Male Athlete in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006, and won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Overseas Personality Award in 2003. Armstrong retired from racing on July 24, 2005, at the end of the 2005 Tour de France.
His athletic success and his dramatic recovery from cancer inspired Armstrong to commemorate his accomplishments in conjunction with Nike through the Lance Armstrong Foundation, a charity founded in 1997. The now ubiquitous "Livestrong" yellow rubber wristbands first launched in 2004 netted the Foundation tens of millions of dollars in the fight against cancer and helped Armstrong become a major player in the nonprofit sector.

Yeah I know what you're saying, but the Tour de France is not the Olympics and the Olympics are the pinnacle of global Athletic competition - don't get me wrong i'm not knocking Armstrong at all, I think I clearly stated that. Breaking Five world records at one Olympics, especially those being held in Nazi Germany as a black man is the greater accomplishment imo.Kmarion wrote:

True, but i think people took the entire person into consideration perhaps when making that choice. On and off the field (or track).

Plus the tour-de-france is the same roadrace won 7 times, Owens broke 5 different world records in one olympics
But the record of winning the tour de France 7 times with one nut will never be broken..lol
Xbone Stormsurgezz
lol - don't think to many world records will be broke in Nazi Germany by Black men either
