Ok, then Half-life 2 is a mod of the original castle wolfenstein cause they are both first person shooters.
Warcraft III is a mod of Warcraft I.
Age of Empires III is a mod of Age of Empires I.
Shall I go on?
Everygame is based on another game, I would doubt if any game was started from scratch, except for the very first ones.
Just because it uses the same engine doesnt mean its the same game!!! I would not doubt if they took the code from BF2 and used it in BF2142, since they are the same kind of game! But if you want to get technical then im sure there were some Bf1942 codes that were used in BF2, or BFV, so all the games are just mods of BF1942!!! ZOMG WHY ARE EA CHARGING FOR MODS HA><0rs!
You miss the point of mods. Actually, a game is a mod if it's based on, or entirely ripped from the engine of another game. HL2 uses the Source engine, which has much better physics and true 3d.
WCIII uses real 3D, Warcraft I did not.
AoE III, I haven't played, but the AI engine was changed from AoE I to AoE II to significantly change it, and the graphics were entirely redone.
Every game is based on another game, sure. But when an engine is based on another engine insofar as stealing significant amounts of code from it, then one of two things happen....
A) If it is not the same company producing the new game as the old game, and the company does not own the rights to the engine, that is Intellectual Property Theft, which is so incredibly fined you wouldn't even believe it.
B) If it is the same company, that game is a mod.
And to retort your statement on BF2 being a 1942 mod, the models and physics were a significant enough change. Please reference screenshots from 1942 to BF2, and then BF2 to 2142.
If no one told you about 2142 being an official release, you could be led to believe it's a mod.
Yes, BF2142 is a mod. It is a professionally redesigned BF2 with different bells and whistles. Please get over it. It may not be particularly innovative, but it is not lacking as a game because of it.
