Because less than 1% of the population is in pro gun groups, if other people wanted guns they would join the pro gun groups.
In the USA there are many people who are not members of any pro-gun group that feel the firearm rights should not be infringed upon. I do not believe pro-gun group membership participation is an accurate way to determine the actual thoughts/wishes of a society. How many people believe that abortion is wrong yet not part of an anti-abortion movement? People don't like to join groups and a lot of people don't like to vote or feel their vote will not make a difference.

I think the reason why most of the anti-gun people are anti-gun is because the only information they get about firearms is what the media/government tells them. They don't know the truth about responsible firearm ownership or current firearm laws. People see an AK47 and assume it’s a full auto, they hear that a gun holds 15 rounds and think that’s a lot of bullets. Most anti-gun people have never tried to shoot a gun. People are scared of things they don't know or understand. Almost every anti-gun person I have ever met doesn't know a damn thing about current firearm laws and has never fired a gun. There are more gun laws on the books than anything. What we need is strict enforcement of the current laws, not more laws and definitely not a ban. There are criminals who get caught with a stolen gun (missing serial numbers) and basically get a slap on the wrist. There are felons that get caught with a firearm and maybe serve a couple more years. There are criminals with rap sheets a mile long carrying a firearm and committing crimes. These repeat offenders are the problem and perfect place to start. There are way more good people in this world than bad people. Instead of punishing everyone for the mistakes of the few, we should get rid of the few.

they wont get it man, they are close minded. and thats fine because people like them will not effect my carrying a gun or owning them for that matter.......we live in america where it is stated that we have the right to bear arms and protect our property. if people dont like that well they can kiss my ass. its a law and until this country stands up together and says they do not want guns its gonna stay that way. so unless all you uneducated anti gun freaks got 300 million people behind you i dont think your going to accomplish shit......and if you dont have guns in your country good for you. well not really, but you wouldnt know the difference so its all good.....

edit; gotta love all the mossberg 500s that have shown up....much more popular gun than i would have anticipated...

Here is a little more information for you:
Source: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#m1 (www.atf.gov, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives)

NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT (NFA)

(M1) The types of firearms that must be registered in the National Firearm Registration and Transfer Record are defined in the NFA and 27 CFR, Part 479. What are some examples?

Some examples of the types of firearms that must be registered are:
    Machine guns;
    The frames or receivers of machine guns;
    Any combination of parts designed and intended for use in converting weapons into machine guns;
    Any part designed and intended solely and exclusively for converting a weapon into a machine gun;
    Any combination of parts from which a machine gun can be assembled if the parts are in the possession or under the control of a person;
    Silencers and any part designed and intended for fabricating a silencer;
    Short-barreled rifles;
    Short-barreled shotguns;
    Destructive devices; and,
    "Any other weapon."

A few examples of destructive devices are:
    Molotov cocktails;
    Anti-tank guns (over caliber .50);
    Bazookas; and,
    Mortars.

A few examples of "any other weapon" are:
    H&R Handyguns;
    Ithaca Auto-Burglar guns;
    Cane guns; and,
    Gadget-type firearms and "pen" guns which fire a projectile by the action of an explosive.

[26 U.S.C. 5845]

(M2) How can an individual legally acquire NFA firearms?

Basically, there are 2 ways that an individual (who is not prohibited by Federal, State, or local law from receiving or possessing firearms) may legally acquire NFA firearms:

   1. By transfer after approval by ATF of a registered weapon from its lawful owner residing in the same State as the transferee.
   2. By obtaining prior approval from ATF to make NFA firearms.

[27 CFR 479.62-66 and 479.84-86 ]

(M3) What is the tax on making an NFA firearm?
The tax is $200 for making any NFA firearm, including "any other weapon."

(M4) How is this tax paid?
A money order or check made payable to the Bureau of ATF together with the application forms are to be mailed to the Bureau of ATF, NFA Branch.

(N2) May machine guns be transferred from one registered owner to another?
Yes. If the machine gun was lawfully registered and possessed before May 19, 1986, it may be transferred pursuant to an approved ATF Form 4.

[18 U.S.C. 922(o)(2), 26 U.S.C. 5812]

Check your facts mate, you can quite easily own (and store at home) an SMLE. I talked to the armourer in the Leeds Armoury about this since he could do all the work necessary to tidy up the action of an ex-service gun if I'd wanted to get one for long-range shooting.

Unless one somehow gets stolen and is used to kill someones child. How would you like to explain that to their parents?
Want to ask a couple of people who had their car stolen by a joyrider that subsequently ran down a pedestrian whether they're culpable for the use the vehicle was put to? Think it through.

Vilham wrote:

I have one question however. I have also shot clay pigeons and i have shot animals however those were with shotguns, guns designed for hunting birds and small mammals. Do you think it is nessecary to own pistols and semi auto rifles?? Guns designed to kill humans and have no other purpose.
That's an old argument and almost always fails when debated in depth. I own weapons designed for the express purpose of killing humans only; doesn't make me a bad person, even if that is the use to which I would put them if the need arose.

Vilham wrote:

Please don't try to lecture people about a subject you clearly don't fully understand, especially since the implications of use and abuse are something you haven't spent enough time thinking about!

I don't mean to be insulting but you're probably one of those people that think that law enforcement shouldn't shoot to kill. I used to feel the same, until I actually learned something about the issue.

If you are interested in buying a gun. Go to a good local gun store and ask the guys there what is required by your state.

I don't think you need a "permit" to purchase a fire arm, although most states have their own specific laws regarding what can and can't be owned,  waiting periods, etc.

I live in Kalifornia, so we have a background check, 14 day "cooling off" period, and a long list of "assault weapons" or at least things that politicians THINK are assault weapons, that we cannot own.

In Arizona as long as you are not a felon you can buy a gun and walk out the door with it in about 10-15 minutes. No permit or registration required (unless its an NFA item).

really you mean long rifle or shotgun correct?

last time i was in AZ i thought that was the law

here it  is a 3 day wait for a handgun through a metro background check, neveda has pretty lax gun laws
can even carry it on the hip, exposed in public, but i wouldnt personally. CCW is the way to go

18 to own any rifle, that include's say a AK-74 or 47 whicha re very popular

of course these are just clones, not the real deal

but very effective non the less
