Obviously I do.
Do you find it necessary to put two question marks at the end of that question? lol

Vilham wrote:

They have plenty of other purposes. In fact pistols and semi-auto rifles are used substantially more for legal purposes than illegal purposes. Why punish everyone for the bad decisions of a very small amount of people? What's next get rid of cars because we can't stop the drunk drivers? The problem is not the object it is the operator and lack of strict punishment for those who commit violent crimes. We fill up our prisons with drug users and let the violent, child molesters, rapists and thieves out early because we don't have room for them.
Please dont try and start a debate as to why pistols and rifles were invented. They were invented to kill people end of. "Pistols are smaller, lighter, easier to conceal, and faster to bring to bear." Why do you need a weapon that is easy to conceal other than to attack people with.

"Etymology: "gun" is found in Middle English as "gonne", and seems to come from the Germanic woman's name Gunhild or Gundhild = "war sword", applied to an early cannon."

Even the name is related to war.

Cars are nessecary for modern day society, private gun ownership isnt. Gun owners in America are in the HUGE minority go read up on the statistics.

Because legal, responsible gun owners don't get concealed weapon permits to attack people, they get them to defend themselves and others.

ANYWAY this thread is getting way off topic.  This thread was meant for gun owners to share their collections, not to discuss the morality of firearms.  Please start a fresh topic if you wish to continue the debate.  Otherwise get out of my thread.

You sir are the one trying to start a debate, which I think we can all agree has already begun.
Earlier in this thread I requested that people like you stay out of this discussion, but your type never can. They must tell us how wrong we are and how dangerous are "machines of death" are. Some firearms are designed to kill humans, some are designed to kill animals and some are designed strictly for sport/target shooting. I do own firearms that were designed to kill humans, that doesn't mean that is the only thing they can be used for.

Vilham wrote:

I don't need a weapon to attack people. I need a weapon that is easy to conceal so I can conceal it for self defense or defense of others (friends, family and possibly a stranger). In our country where you can legally own and in most states carry a firearm they are used to stop and prevent crimes more often than they are used to commit them. All humans should have the right to self-defense unless that person has been proven unsafe to society. Don't bring a knife or non-lethal weapon to a gunfight. I own guns for hobby, sport and protection. I consider the firearm I carry insurance. I have it in case I need it, but hope I don't have to use it.

I think we have both made our points and as I said before neither of us are going to change our minds. So please stop taking away from those of us who want to enjoy this thread for which it was originally posted.

I've got plenty of knifes in my kitchen and a BB gun in my bedroom. Although a real gun (assault rifle or carbine ) would be good in scaring off your local chavs once and for all.

I was happily asking a brit about guns then someone responded to that question to a BRITISH person, we were all happy untill that point. So how about dont answer questions that arent directed at you personally.

Well actually if you go back and look you did direct something at me and that is when I responded. Since then both of our responses have been directed at each other.
Does this look familiar?

wow this is a really popular topic......first.....

fishing with explosives was common practice in vietnam....it was called using DuPont lures. most explosives then and still now are produced by dupont lol. just like the miniguns are produced by GE the same people that own NBC....lol what is GE's motto "we bring good things to life" lol and appearently death very quickly.

second. home boy that said he would like the shoot the uzi. no you dont. trust me that gun is crap. damn thing jammed a round pointing back at a bystander....very scary moment. wont pick it up again....besides that is has the weight close to an M4 and it only shoots a 9mm, a very inefficiant round.

third, and this one is very important so please forgive the caps.
NEVER POINT A GUN AT ANYONE. EVEN IF U KNOW IT IS UNLOADED. BE SURE OF YOUR BACKSTOP. BE SURE OF YOUR BACKSTOP.(sorry thats an important one.) DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO SHOOT. AQUIRE TARGET, TRIGGER SQUEEZE.
FOR ALL YOU IDIOTS OUT THERE THAT WANT TO POINT GUNS AT PEOPLES HEADS, I HAVE SEEN FIRST HAND WHAT A KEL-TEC .38O DOES TO THE SIDE OF SOMEONES HEAD AT POINT BLANK. THAT WAS DARWINISM AT ITS FINEST, AND SO ARE YOU FOOLS. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DONT LEAVE A MESS BEHIND. YOU MAKE RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS LOOK HORRIBLE WITH YOUR IMMATURE ACTIONS. I WISH THAT EVERYONE COULD HAVE SEEN WHAT I DID, IT WAS THE #1 WAY TO UNDERSTAND GUN SAFETY.

and for the guy that was talking about people being killed with their own guns because they were to long and therefore easier to get. that is true however we come back to the point of over powered rounds. if anyone has a neighbor anywhere near them i urge you for your sake and your neighbors sake to get a shotgun. go to a local shooting range or gun store and ask their advice on a home defense round. i shoot a #4 birdshot out of my 20 ga mossberg pump. it will penetrate and stop anyone that comes near me, but drywall will decrease the velocity enough not allow anyone behind to get seriously injured(like getting hit with a weak bb gun). as for people getting it away from me, i doubt that will happen it is a very short gun(pistol grip) and it is fired from the hip. it has to be fired from the hip. if anyone ever gets a pistol grip shotgun DO NOT try to aim down the barrel or you WILL be going to the hospitol having them put your face back together. now, my walls are drywall so i limited myself to that round. other people have different walls sheetrock etc. i also am limited due to the fact that it is a 20 ga. but that cant change because i am married and my wife needs to be able to use it if she was ever forced to. but i would seriously look into a shotgun. and all the home defenders out there please know your laws in the state you reside. alot of people think that they can shoot someone if they enter your house period. that is not the case anywhere, and while i cant tell you the laws for your state missouri goes like this: we are a flight state. that means you have to try to run BEFORE you shoot. if you cant run you need to get to the furthest point in your house away from said person. if that person pursues you, you must announce that you have a gun and if said person continues pursuit and does not allow you any other alternative you may fire, and fire again, and fire again. now the laws for my CCW(concealed carry weapon license) are even more complicated, so i MUST know them to carry my kimber.
the second point in this talk about defense weapons is that you must hit your target. i have never been in a combat situation(been close), but i can tell you that a shotgun is much easier to get a hit with in a house than it is to use a single round(rifle of pistol). of coure its completely up to you, but i just thought i would tell you all the options. hope it helped a little.

and as for guns getting stolen and used in crimes. that is a shame and can probably be attributed to the same type of people that point guns at each other. i can say for myself and the poeple that i shoot with on a regular basis that no one can get to any of my guns. thats not saying that every single one is locked up, but they would have to find them first. i placed firearms at certain points in my house when i was renovating and they have stayed there. i know no one would find them ever. they are in certain spots INSIDE of my walls that only my wife and i know about. if anyone would like to know how to do this i would be happy to explain, however it is a long post and this one is already long enough so just say something and i will explain the process to you......anyway im sure ill talk to you guys again soon. later.
derek

edit;oh and my intent on any of these posts was never to offend anyone so im sorry if i have. just tryin to help/put my two cents in.

Wow thats rediculous.  In FL theres a law called the Castle Doctrine which states:

You need not retreat from your own home to avoid using deadly force against an assailant.

Sounds like in missouri you get to let the attacker steal stuff from your home while the police are on the way.

I own a Springfield XD40 unlike the 9mm shown in the photo. Great pistols and is by far one of my favorites in my collection. I think I'm gonna by a digital camera so I can take some pics of my other firearms, but I usually use my extra cash to buy another gun...Thats the only downside of working in a Gun store.

I do not know who you are directing this question towards, but my answer would be no.
Here is a question for you:
What are you trying to accomplish with your question and do you think it is beneficial to the topic?

i recently started a business here in st louis. Parker Custom Knives. those first two are my "entry level" knives they sell for $70. the autos below are much more, but i cannot legally ship them over state lines. ive carried one a frame lock almost identical to the lower one in the top picture for over two years and put it through some real abuse and have never had a problem and has an excellent edge holding capability...........thanks for the kind words.....i should have put this up earlier but i forgot. everybody know what thermite is????
well i use it sometimes when i need to do REAL HOT pattern welds. the military uses it in all sortsof stuff including AT rounds.....remember this video the next time your raising hell in your M1A2 and it starts beeping and flashing that red X. lol, please if anyone decides they need to go buy some of this BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't explain anything to the victim's parents.
In that case I would not have been the one who committed the crime.
The person who stole the firearm and the person who committed the murder are the problem.

What if someone stole your car and drove it through a mall killing 4 people?
How would you explain that to the victim's families?
How come you didn't have all the latest anti-theft deterrent systems?

Stop trying to pass the blame and start punishing those who are actually guilty of the crime.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
