the 1911(most automatic handguns today are derived in one way or another from the 1911A1) is not meant to be shot from the side mount. we tried it at my shooting range for shits and giggles. the semi auto will NOT cycle rounds from that position.

and for everyone talking about FFL's....just a side note. i shoot with and make knives(my main occupation) ex SF guys. a greent beret, an old delta guy like really old-vietnam era, and a cat that used to work for the government and has never been very specific about what he ever did although he has the same look as the other two. anyway along their trips through the military they picked up ALOT of not so legal firearms. since i make knives for them and shoot with them i have become rather good friends with them. whenever i feel like it, well thats not true it has to be on saturday mornings at about 8:30 before the range opens. but if i call them during the week i can have basically whatever the hell i want to shoot at the range on saturday morning. i would like to do this more than i already do, but im married and as all gun owners will know(excluding people that only own .17's or .22's) ammunition is niether cheap nor free. so money limits me on my shooting. but my point here is that they OWN between them over two hundred fully automatic firearms. they each have a FFLIII license so if you want to own military weapons, you may but it wil cost you ALOT of money........

side note-some of the guns they own that i have been lucky enough to shoot.
glock 18 with 50 round beta mag
FN P90
all the russians-kalishnikov variants, assault, carbine, LMG
M60, the old one with the crap feeding tray
thompson with the stick mag(personal favorite though it requires expensive .45 rounds to cycle correctly)
uzi blah crap gun
MP5
UMP
vektor-MP5 variant chambered for 5.56(too small of a body for that large of a round)
M1 garand, carbine, 14
theres more but i cant think of em right now...got some video of the full auto glock just cant figure out how to get it on here......anyway, you guys have a good one.

All I had was a background check for the shotty and AK to see if I was convited of any felonys I suppose.  When I got the AK I was able to enter and leave the shop with the rifle and a couple boxes of ammo in about 45 minutes.

You also show your ignorance about guns by assuming it was full auto.  Full auto is illegal in the US, only semi-auto is allowed, as DeepSky pointed out.
Full auto firearms are not illegal in the USA.
In order for a civilian to own a full auto firearm the firearm must have been built before the Firearms Owners' Protection Act of May 19, 1986 and registered with the government. Because of this restriction on full auto firearms their prices are high and always go up as there is no more added to civilian circulation.
That's state specific. As far as I know, only in Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona allow full auto.

Anyways, here's mine:

Nothing special. Just some toys for camping.
Can you please tell me what you need a grenade for?  Why not just use claymores and land mines for home defense?

Just being sarcastic.

How old are you?

Please stop talking to people from other countries about how cool guns are.

But if you dont want to do that, the only gun you can own is a 0.22 rifle or a shotgun and if you live in a city you cant own one of them.

This is the only image I have at the moment. I hate taking gun pics because I don't have adequate lighting in my house except in the bathroom.

#1 - re:  those college pics - I can't believe any responsible firearm owner would point directly at someone's head.  I don't care if it's "unloaded", this is rule #1!

#2 - I always thought that in home defense you wanted to ensure your firearm was not easily wrested away from you (that is, long-barreled pistols, rifles etc.) hence a smaller piece was better (like Kahr's stuff).

#3 - I own a Marlin 917 for varminting and a Walther P99 in 9mm.  To that fellow who wanted an opinion:  it's very well made and shoots 2-inch groups at 25 yards (with me shooting! no bench rest..) but I find it difficult to get the slide off to clean it.  Maybe that's just me.

#4 -Congratulations to everyone for keeping this string on-topic, and not digressing into Constitutional Law, why the US is bad and, ultimately, Iraq, like every other thread around here seems to do.

I wouldn't explain anything to the victim's parents.
In that case I would not have been the one who committed the crime.
The person who stole the firearm and the person who committed the murder are the problem.

What if someone stole your car and drove it through a mall killing 4 people?
How would you explain that to the victim's families?
How come you didn't have all the latest anti-theft deterrent systems?

Stop trying to pass the blame and start punishing those who are actually guilty of the crime.

LOL, it's actually a dud round. I could only dream of having a live grenade! The closest thing I ever got was a small propane tank with a flare duct taped to it. We shot it with a shot gun and BOOM! I wish I had it on tape for you.

It's obvious that there are many anti-gun persons on this forum.
Its sad that people believe what the government and media tells them about firearms without educating themselves on the subject.
Most anti-gun persons I have met or read comments from online have never shot a gun and are obviously uneducated about firearms and their laws.
They open their mouth about a subject they know nothing about, make personal insults and make absurd comparisons and "facts".
Please do not post if you have anything anti-gun to say. If you don't like it don't participate.
You are not going to change our views and we are not going to change yours.

I do not need to justify my firearm ownership to anyone.
What kind of checks do you go through in the USA to obtain a gun?  Does that class as being "justified"?  Im UK so I genuinely don't know.

Im not anti-gun im anti shooting someone.  There have been two incidents here in the UK that stick in mind.  Hungerford and Dunblane.  Both times innocent people gunned down for no reason, the latter being children.  I know from 1st hand knowledge the pleasure of shooting brings, I used to shoot clays as a kid and have watched my Dad many occasions shoot clays and live.

I have no problems with anyone owning a gun aslong as they are responsible which I consider you to be, you show pride in your weapons as others do in their collections.

I will post on any matter wether Im anti or not unless told otherwise by a mod. Thank you.
I have one question however. I have also shot clay pigeons and i have shot animals however those were with shotguns, guns designed for hunting birds and small mammals. Do you think it is nessecary to own pistols and semi auto rifles?? Guns designed to kill humans and have no other purpose.

lol downy, that's hilarious, reminds me of Dawn of the dead.

and to Sondernkommando

I know not to point it at peoples heads, that wasn't me holding the gun.  Just a friend of mine, I just wanted to give an example of a "responsible" gun owner.  For all you anti-gun people out there, it may comfort you to know that the person holding the gun in that picture, is a former US Army Soldier lol.  I wonder if the term babykiller is gonna be used

If i was part of th minority of people that owned something that caused death i would appologise to someones parents if it was stolen and used to kill someone. However cars are everywhere wereas guns arent, its the minority that is endangering the majority.

Obviously I do.
Do you find it necessary to put two question marks at the end of that question? lol

Vilham wrote:

They have plenty of other purposes. In fact pistols and semi-auto rifles are used substantially more for legal purposes than illegal purposes. Why punish everyone for the bad decisions of a very small amount of people? What's next get rid of cars because we can't stop the drunk drivers? The problem is not the object it is the operator and lack of strict punishment for those who commit violent crimes. We fill up our prisons with drug users and let the violent, child molesters, rapists and thieves out early because we don't have room for them.

Yes the minority being violent criminals not law abiding citizens who legally own and posses firearms. By the way in our country guns are everywhere and most people who die from a firearm in this county use the firearm to commit suicide. Maybe you should look at statistics on how many people actually die from automobiles. They are extremely dangerous and kill people in large numbers every single day.

Wow, thats a whole world away from us over here in the UK.  As Ive mentioned above the stringent rules my Dad has to abide by.  When we have had terrible incidents over here the goverment then bring in tighter controls but to me it just seems to late.

We can purchase a car over here and drive away in approx 45 mins and in the wrong hands that can be just as deadly as any gun.

My step son recently brought home a Samuri Sword for "show".  I flipped right out I went nuts, not that he would use it but just incase it fell on my daughter or someone broke in and got to it.  That would be my biggest fear with a gun, what if someone broke in and got to it 1st.  I posted something simular when we had a debate here on knives.

Yes for a couple reasons including novelty and historical value, not to mention many people that go to ranges to target shoot use assault weapons.

The value of a trigger lock is priceless.  My father trusts me more than anything but I don't even know where he keeps the keys to the locks on his guns.
