First to anyone who has the CTD or freezing game problem...Try turning the sound acceleration down in DirectX. Goto START, then RUN, and type dxdiag. Goto sound tab and use the slider to lower the sound acceleration. I had to lower mine to Basic acceleration.
Second, to anyone who gets the "connection failed, please check your network settings" problem. Its not your computer its the game itself. When you goto the server screen. DO NOT let all the servers load. Depending on which server screen you use either hit 'cancel' or 'back' to stop the server load after about 100 to 150 servers. I have found out that if you try to load any more than that EA's servers start to broadcast junk that closes your ports that are required to play the game, hence the connection problem.
These might not help everyone but it has helped mine. So, if all else fails try these.
