I recently had my account hacked. The perpetrator guessed my password and changed my BF2 profile password as well as the email address the account was set up with to his own email address. This meant I couldn't play on my profile or retrieve the password. I raised the issue with EA's online 'support' and never got a reply. Surprised? No. Next step was raising a ticket with GameSpy, again, no response. Still no surprise.

I eventually managed to get an email address for someone at GameSpy customer support, emailed them and got a reply in less than 24 hours. The email address is [email protected], for anyone who has had this happen to them.

I know I'm not the only one so I hope this will prove useful to some of you.

One more thing. The email address of the hacker was [email protected] and I also got his IP address. I traced it using dnsstuff.com to a company on your side of the pond called SoftLayer Technologies. They provide and lease servers to organisations. When I called them to let them know I'd been hacked from one of their IP addresses they immediately put me through to one of their Directors of Operations who has decided to take this remarkably seriously as it came from one of their larger clients. He mentioned something about new Cyber Terrorist legislation that came in after 9/11 and that they HAD to follow up such reports as mine.

Anyway, their client are to contact me shortly in regards to my situation so I'll keep you guys informed. This has snowballed more than I expected and I can't help but feel sorry for this hacker as he's most likely going to get someone knocking on his door pretty soon or fired from his job. Either way, I'll feel somewhat vindicated.

Incidentally, feel free to bombard this wankers email with as much spam/abuse/dodgy midget porn and anything else you feel like for the foreseeable future.

Thanks

When you called Softlayer Technologies did you tell them the nature of the hack? Not that it is unimportant to you, but it seems unlikely that someone would get brought up and charges of cyber terrorism for guessing a password to an online game account.

Even if the ip was traced there he could have been using tor (tor.eff.org) in which case at most they will find one tor router in a long chain of routers.

Just the same I hope you get your bf2 account back.

Wait aren't you the one who got his account hacked forum/bf2. And everyone like applauded? The one who was like talking shit about America?

Anyways that new cyber terrorists legistlation is pretty damn harsh, you can go to jail for making threats over the internet or even attempting to do anything, only problem is that there are really large precedent cases for suing blah blah blah.

This has snowballed more than I expected and I can't help but feel sorry for this hacker as he's most likely going to get someone knocking on his door pretty soon or fired from his job.
That's a tad harsh ain't it -.-

ncidentally, feel free to bombard this wankers email with as much spam/abuse/dodgy midget porn and anything else you feel like for the foreseeable future. <--- I would DEF. not do that, then you'd go under harrassment, and he can file suit -.- Not a good idea hm?

Wait oh yeah. Was it "hacking?" I'm pretty sure the guy who posted on here said you passsword was Blanco.... Which is conincidentally part of your name.

can't forget them proxies man. ?><?

I'm sure its his one and only email account and not one he created for the occasion.

I told them exactly what happened and what was hacked. The guy said it was irrelevant what he hacked and how he did it. The fact he gained access to what was a private passworded account seemed to be the important factor. Furthermore this company is a server support comapny so I'm guessing they know their shit when it comes to IP's and stuff. Could be wrong but I'm interested to see what happens.

Check your emails. There should be one from gamespy confirming either the change of password or change of email address. Trace it, if you can be arsed (www.dnsstuff.com), and then email [email protected]

Sucks ya got your account hacked, hope ya get it back allright. As other people have pointed out try and make your password something that can't be guessed that easily, make it like insanely long or something, that seems to do the trick for me.

Cheers dude, I have changed it to something more appropriate now. To be honest I really didn't think someone hacking my online gaming account was anything to get worried about. Some people are just sad I guess..and I don't think it was as simple as him guessing my password if I understand correctly what Prodie and duk0r are saying.

hey dude, the email address is a false email, when i had my account changed the email was [email protected]. the hacker is getting into the accounts and then changing all emails to a gmail account, elite mafia had this happen too and if i remember right it was a gmail email address too.
Hope you get yours back like we did

That'd make sense. He can't really fake his IP though can he? He can only make it really hard to trace. The company I rang seem to be taking this more seriously than I am so lets hope they find him.

Well the person responsible was wrong for this in every which way, however you could take better care with your passwords. Choosing Blanco isn't exactly a very smart idea, and for someone who has the know how to find this person, should also have the know how to pick a decent password.

For example- A good password should never be anything personal to you. Avoid names and birthdays at all costs. Choose passwords that mean absolutely nothing to you. random #/letter combo at least 6 digits is always fine. But make sure you remember them or write it down and keep it in your sock drawer or something. For example- nj4k975p

My father worked in the CIA believe it or not and knows quite a bit about passwords and codes etc... So he always told me small things about what passwords should and shouldnt be.

But #/letter combos are always the best for online games, because anyone who wants it is gonna need to do alot of guessing work. There are programs however that will crack the password easily, but I doubt there freeware and there probably expensive.

Yes he can. He can have a # of IP's at any given time.
But I doubt hes a genious of a hacker, so most likely hes some little kid who thought he would prove his point by being a e-gangsta and hacking ur Bf2 account.

But like I said multiple IP's are definately possible.

or a dynamic IP. which is possible even with a broadband a/c. when you turn of the router, you get a new IP when you turn it on again. anyhow, yeah, pick a letter/# password next time (mine is) as a mate of mine kept trying to hack the password to my accoutn at a website ( with my knowledge) and whne i chaged it to a letter/#one, he gave up.
