i bought 2142 today, ( i am in the uk and it cam out today) and in the usable graphics card list for nvidia it has:

GeForce 5800 series
GeForce 5900 series
GeForce 6200 series
GeForce 6800 series
GeForce 7300 series
GeForce 7800 series
GeForce FX 5700 series
GeForce FX 5900 series
GeForce FX 5950 series

know i have a 6600, should that work or is there a reason why its not on that list or anything, because i installed the game and loaded it up, it just got to the splash screen and then it does nothing. but the computer isnt frozen. anybody else having the same problem and can anybody suggest why it doesnt work or if it should or whatever please. thanks in advance.

It's the same game engine as BF2, and that graphics card worked on BF2. I would therefore assume that your 6600 card will work.

You need two of the same graphics card and two pci-e slots for sli mode. The 6600 should be fine I have a 6600gt and it runs ok. Im not sure what else to suggest other than what other have said and just update your drivers.

Did you install DirectX 9.0c??  You can find this out by going to Start > Run. Then typing dxdiag.

When the dialog box comes up check near the bottom and look for "DirectX Version" if you see that it is DirectX 9.0b then you have an older version and 2142 will not work.

I seem to remember reading that you have to have windows running in the default 60Hz for BF2142 to start up first time.

Check to see what you GPU and monitor are running at and if they are at anything other than 60Hz this could be the problem.

Right click on desktop and click on properties. Click on settings tab and then click advanced. On the monitor tab it should tell you what frequency your monitor is operating at. Apparently for BF2142 to start up initially it needs to be set to 60Hz according to EA's support site.

Give it a try.

but if i was to put it something like 70hertz - 85 hertz would it change for the better or for the worst, or will nothing happen at all.

and also if you follow my link in my previous post, if you have any ideas as to how i can get that fixed then please let me know.

thanks so far for some great advice

Once BF2142 has started up then theoretically you can set the monitor frequency in game to whatever your monitor will handle and it should be okay. It just needs windows to be running at 60Hz to start with.

As to the shots in your other thread I've only seen stuff like that either as a result of:

a) a dying graphics card,
b) an overclocked graphics card which is getting too hot, or
c) having downloaded the latest drivers for the card and they aren't compatible with the old chipset.

If you have overclocked your card try undoing this.

If you have recently downloaded new drivers try rolling them back.

Well if you had overclocked your card you would use the same utility you used to do it. Is your card overclocked?

Good for you then man. Have fun on the battlefield.

If you're all sorted you may want to ask the mods to close this thread. If you want it closed just click the report button, explain that your problem has been solved, and whichever mod is on right now will close the thread and help to keep the forums tidy.
