If it was possible to reduce the map size like how it does when you use the 16 player mode, 32 player mode, etc. but in an actual 64 player server.

I'd love to play Gulf of Oman with the boundaries set from construction yard to the beachfront (effectively eliminating the essex and MEC airfield, which would make it an infantry and ground vehicle game) but with 64 players.

This would be an excellent opportunity to expose people to maps other than Karkand, while still retaining a lot of the faster action people tend to prefer.

Or how about Sharqi with the bounds set from hotel to survey station to construction to TV station? That would be a riot.

Or how about Kubra with all the actual action centered right on the dam itself?

It's possible to do that... I could set up the BF2s server that way if I wanted to, or if enough people really wanted it that way. Wouldn't be 64 players though, it would be 48 on a 16 player map.

I think that'd be great - all I ever see is the same old 64 player stuff. Some of the larger maps actually might be fun to play with their sizes whittled down a bit.

What kind of boundaries can you set on Oman? From where to where?

Whatever the 16 player map limits are. You can't change the map in any way except for the size. The boundaries are pre-set for all three sizes. But you would be able to fit up to 64 people on the server still.

That would be brilliant, id definatly be keen on playing on that sort of server

The 16 player map limit is from construction yard to the beachfront, containing one tank and several transport.

Possible to set it to the 32 player mode? I believe that one includes hotel and a couple of the other beachfronts.

If you've ever indulged in any of the arguments on here between the Karkand vs. Balanced Map players, the only thing the Karkand people argue for is the faster action and less idle time. Nobody I've encountered as of yet has expressed any love for the map design of Karkand really. This actually might be a good way of dealing with the "you only play 1 map" thing while still keeping it fun for the ground pounders.

Not to mention, Oman rules for vehicles. You have to be a SKILLED tank or APC driver to be able to survive the anti tanks who entrench themselves and fire their rockets in the open terrain at you. I played the demo for so damn many hours, Oman is such a nice map, it's too bad it only sees jet combat these days. You try to sit in a spawn area with a tank, you WILL die, because there's no building for you to run behind and hide. This was before smoke nades too, so you had to be extra careful and watchful of what you're doing.

The problem I have seen with the 64 players on the 16 or 32 player maps is that the ticket counts also get reduced to 16 player map levels. So you might have 32 players on a team but only a 100 tickets to lose. The games tend to go really fast especially if one team is able to get the ticket counter going. Your usually not going to have more than like 5 kill or 3 deaths a round.

Im not sure if you increase the ticket ratio's if the server will lose its ranked status( I think it will lose it). I will have to check on that.

I know you can indeed raise the ticket ratio's, but I don't see why you would lose your ranked status because of it. That's silly.

I went in the BF2S server and saw you had Mashtuur on 16 player mode. It looks awesome, and very centered around mosque. Unfortunately nobody else on it to play with

It's been hard to populate the server.

I love 16 player map sizes, great idea.  I don't play many hours per week, but if I saw the bf2s.com server with this setup I'd join it as often as possible.

yea I know that you can already play 16 player maps with 64 people, but it goes so fast.  It would be awsome if the 64 player TICKET levels were on a 16 player map.  Anyone agree?

Perhaps you need to actually advertise it a little bit more. Get someone to do a small graphic for it advertising close quarters action and give it more front page space. If you've nobody from here that wants to do it, I can see if I can get someone from another forum to do a banner-like graphic to advertise your server

But see the server info is on the main page. And you pretty much have to use the main page to look up your stats. I bet enough people know about it, they just think they're the only ones that know because they never see anyone there.

It's not eye catching. I missed it about 1000 times checking stats. A graphic of some sort would alleviate that a lot. Even the server graphic will do. If you want to get fancy, even put in # of people currently playing on it.

The idea is you want to attract attention to it before people check their stats then forget about it

The first thing my eye catches is the holiday festive graphic of the wreathed BF2S logo, the text is forgettable.

It would only cause chaos and it won't allow you to feel the real feeling of how a battlefield should be.

Battlefields are quite varied, it really depends on the battlefield. Can't really compare tromping around the forested areas of vietnam with storming Normandy beach

The type of battle that seems to be preferred by many players are the smaller, chaotic ones, thus why so much Karkand being played. This is just attempting to get that same type of game, but actually introducing different maps into the fray. Taking a look at Mashtuur in 16 player mode, it is perfect - it includes the areas in and around Mosque - enough breathing room, but never too far to go to find a fight, and quite varied as far as the terrain goes - gives you a little bit more room for some long ranged marksmanship

That is because the map settings would not be global.  Since stats are global, they wouldn't be uniform.

If someone can confirm that the rankings won't be turned off if I raise the tickets and lower the map sizes then I'm all for it. I'd have to ask Chuy first though.

I wonder that nearly everybody is so thrilled by the idea of such a server. I have played on servers like that a few times and it just gets completely chaotic! Spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die.... The maps get too crowded pretty soon.
