mind that brother - you can install RAM chips straight out of the uss Enterprise computer core. it will still run the same speed as your "low-end rubbish 1gb of RAM" does. This is how it works.
I hope your low end mem is DDR400. if its even lower then that - the total 2GB installed *WILL* run at the lower clock speed.

just FYI, Windows has a hard time recognizing more than 2.5GB of RAM from what I've heard.
this is not true. Windows xp x32 is limited to 4GB of ram. The year old new Windows xp x64 can support upto 16TB (Terrabyte = 1giga of a giga).
Let me try to clear a few things up.
First, I doubt the USS enterprise uses the same DDR ram that your computer does
, but not all ram is created equal. While his "regular" DDR400 currently works, there are certainly faster ones out there. The RAM that he has picked out has timings of 2-3-3-6 (lower is better). His current RAM is most likely standard ram, which runs at a speed of generally 3-4-4-8. You can actually get ram that runs at 2-2-2-5 but now you're digging in your wallet. If you get that new ram, and 2 gigs of it to boot, not only will your computer run WAY faster, but it will actually run cooler than before (I have seen this first hand on my PC when I first got Corsair memory with enhanced timings, my ambient temp dropped 10 celsius).
Non nerd lingo: You can run in fuzzy pink bunny slippers, but you can definitely run faster with cross trainer Adidas, and your feet probably won't hurt as much.
32 bit OS is definitely limited to 4GB of ram. However, in personal experience, the last Asus mobo I tried to put 4gb into actually only recognized 3.6GB as a limitation of the BIOS and chipset, not the CPU itself. But in the end, you are definitely wasting your money on 4GB of ram for this game. You are better off buying 2GB of fast Corsair or OCZ memory (or whatever is your cup of tea), and getting a faster video card with the money from the extra 2gb that the game will not use. From what the forums here say, BF2 uses between 1 and 1.5gb of memory, and XP will use about 200 idle (depending on all that porn spyware you have loaded). However, judging from the specs you have posted, you are not concerned about budget, so maybe you should get 4gb and a second GTX card for SLI and really pound out those pixels
