Well after watching many videos and looking at screenshots.  I decided to build a rig strong enough to play.  Will these three core components be enough to play BF2142 at any setting?

Vid Card: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6814130017
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6819103637
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6820145566
Main Board: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6813131022

I will be running nothing on this computer but this any a few other games.  So assuming I have this hardware and nothing else is running on this computer will I be able to play BF2142?  Thanks!!

Thats not bad for an average price rig.  You definitely need to get a dual core processor though.  You'll be disappointed if you don't.

For one I dont' see the point in dual core if the games I play don't support it.  Thats what get me pissed off is AMD and Intel are forcing us to switch to dual core when games like HL2/CSS freak out when you have the process run on both cores.(I know how to resolve but its annoying have to do that every time.) Unless BF2142 can use dual core I am sticking with a single core.  Period...

I don't think you completely understand how dual core works but whatever.  It's your PC.  Enjoy.

7600 GT...you might as well get the 512 version

and dont get EVGA. Get XFX cause XFX really over clocks it

and get 2 gb of ram. you'll load it under 15 sec on 1024*768

AMD has released a hotfix that completely fixed that problem for me

Also, I'd get 2 gigs of ram, that'll help everything run a bit smoother

I have a dual-processor machine (not dual core, but 2 physical sockets) and I use a program called WinlauncherXP to launch BF2/2142 on one processor and all other processes on the other. That way I can dedicate the full CPU to the game.

Thansk for the responses and I will probably stick with what I have picked out unless if the 3800+ come back in stock soon.  Anyways, this is just a temp rig and I can upgrade the memory and vid card as I go along I just want to get up and running.  So but I assume with what I got I can play on low or medium settings at 1152x864.

So whats this about the hot fix?  So your saying that they fixed the problems with games and dual cores?  Or will BF2 and HL2 still do that wired video thing and be slow and glicthy?

7950GT 512MB. That'll carry you for a good while.
Dual Core CPU (your choice between AMD or Intel).
2GB DDR-400 (AMD) or DDR2-667; matched pair. BF2 has enough problems with 1GB without subjecting 2142 to it.

What about this combination?

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6813131530
Vid Card: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6814130056
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6819103526
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6820145486

I think thats the most I am willing to spend.

i like it....except the lack of ddr2, which correlates to the lack of a intel processor (for your price range at least.)

you can get corsiar DDR2 2x1gb for around the same price, and a 3.2ghz Pentium D 2x2mb L2 cache for $190. and ECS makes a very good mobo for around $90 as well... and i would go for a GT not the cheapo cut-down version of the 7900...not to much more either.

and dont tell me you wont buy an intel because its an intel...my friend has the above setup (less 1gb ram and a 6600GT 128mb instead of the 7900) and has his CPU overclocked to 3.4...easily on the stock cooling.

ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820145015

video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814150195

keep in mind that the rebates on these products will cut about $100 off the total cost.

You can get a 7900GTO 512MB for $250. Your choice.

See here's the deal.  From what every is telling me I can always go for a little better for a little more but the eventualy adds up.  I've also changed my ram to corsair.

Was going to say get corsair ram no matter what. Also get a more powerfull PSU! You will need it.

I have not decided what I really want to do yet.  I guess I might go with AM2 socket.  But I just don't know about dual core.  Does BF2 still act weird with dual core sytems?  Also that same with source games?

Put simply, no. There were intial problems with Athlon X2's but they were fixed.
I am running an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3Ghz with zero problems. With my X1900XT, I hardly see less than 100 FPS @ 1680x1050 widescreen (lowest I've seen is 70 in Warlord with 64 players in the palace). That said, BF2 doesnt report frame rates higher than 100 FPS.

In fact, Id suggest going for a Core 2 Duo setup, but if this is a "temp" rig as you say, the money involved is probably your greatest concern.

But any worries about Dual Core systems messing with games is a load of outdated bullshit. And even if you ever encountered a problem, you can assign the offending program/game to only use one core in Task Manager.

The choice of AMD or Intel Dual Core is yours, but I'm running an Intel Conroe and I can really recommend it!

Well w/e I do this friday I want to lock my self into gettting the computer.  That means I need to buy the mobo or cpu to make sure I keep with it.

I agree with whoever said you need a better PSU. Make it at least 500W if not more. I have a 550W Antec TruePower II PSU.

As for the graphics card, get the GT not the GS, it is only a little bit more.

-If I remember correctly, BF2142 requires at least 1 and a half GB of RAM.
-A 7600 GT will be obsolete soon. Wait until the DX10 cards come out.
-Get a dual core processor

I've got a 500w picked out.  I just can't decide what to get for a CPU.  Ether Socket 939(Cheapest),AM2(Mid-Range), and 754(Fastest).  I can get 2GBs of DDR, AMD Athlong 4000 and 7950GT for 300 Less than 754 and 150 less than AM2.

Socket 754 is not the fastest...infact it is the slowest of the 3 you are looking at.

Intel's Core 2 Duo (socket 775) is the fastest ATM. You can get the bottom-of-the-line E6300 and it is like getting a high-end AMD but only costs $180.

Then you get a Gigabyte 945p-S3 for like $91
The vid card is your choice but my pick right now is the X1950 Pro for $200 or the 7900GTO for $253

For the RAM if you are overclocking then you need DDR2 800 but if you aren't DDR2 533 or DDR2 677 will be more than enough. 2GB is definitely needed these days so that will be about $230

DO NOT SKIMP ON THE PSU!!! You need to buy a well rated 450W or more PSU or else it has a high chance of failing. My pick would be the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6817189005 XClio 500W for $50

Now the case and keyboard and speakers are really personal preference. Do what you want there. The Centurion 5 by Cooler Master is a nice case for under $50

Total there comes to under $600 and if you add the HD and optical drives its still pretty cheap but most of all it will be super fast and reliable.

What are you talking about? This is a load of CRAP.

An X1800 will be MORE than suffice until DX10 cards come out, and you will get one!
