A Navy SEAL sacrificed his life to save his comrades by throwing himself on top of a grenade Iraqi insurgents tossed into their sniper hideout, fellow members of the elite force said.

I'm sure that he was thinking of politics when he sacrificed his life.

Rest in peace, my family thanks you.

Also, perhaps we should sticky a roll of honour?  There are a lot of these threads, and it seems a little pointless to just have the thread then watch it dissappear.  A stickied one with a list in the first post that gets edited with each new contribution seems a better idea.

RIP. . .

A TRUE hero. . . .

Lots of people admire JFK, MLK, Mickey Mantle, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa etc.

Actually men like this are the true heroes walking amongst us!! Prayers to the SEALs and to that soldiers family.

Oh, yes.  Jumping on top of a grenade is so much more heroic than enduring years of oppression and torture in an effort to gain equality without perpetuating the violent cycle.....................

I'd like to see you do it!!

Sacrificing ones life for another humans is the biggest sacrifice one can do!! Therefore YES it IS that much more heroic than someone else's "enduring years of torture and oppression"!!

I side with the people who bring the business end of stopping torture and oppression! aka the USA military!!

True, the guy was only thinking about his buddies when the nade was thrown in. Solders don't fight for politics they fight for each other. Even more reason why the lying fucks that sent them their should be held responsible for each and every person that looses their life, on both sides.

Mickey Mantle the baseball player?

I swear I've seen some Medal of Honor Commendations of this. I remember one guy in the 101 during WWII was badly wounded and had his arms splinted or something so he just threw himself on top of one to save his buddies, too. See if I can find it...

If i was in that situation, i don't think i would dive on it to save my team, knowing I would die. I wouldnt have the will. mere seconds to decide to willingly die? I wish I had a fraction of that courage. The world would be a much better place if there were more people like him. R.I.P.

You just can't resist pulling this thread into a Iraq war right/wrong argument, can you?

Nice fellas. Start a tribute thread about a fallen soldier and descend to calling the mother of a fallen soldier 'pathetic'. Touching.

Mmm, good guess... I would've thought that also.... Well, for those like her, she claimed to be a canidate for the Nobel Peace Prize... She has already been ripped apart enough from it, I'll let her live a few minutes longer.
