Honestly. Is the problem with the military, or with our perceptions on who or what is allowable?
Gays have been in military service, with great success, since before the time of the Bible.*
What's changed since the time of classical Greece and tribal life, is this uptight notion of what is acceptable to love, based on the bible. Of course, the line in the bible's Old Testament was meant as a guide, a rule that people in the bronze age desert MUST reproduce or die. But the Old Testament was replaced and invalidated by the New Testament, the words that Jesus brought. So... why is this been taken the wrong way now? I'm interested to hear any theories on this.

I don't see why not, if they can do the job then why shouldn't the be alowed in?

I served in the Navy Reserve for ten years and I am sure there were a few gays around.  Who gives a shit?  During a time of war I dont think they are interested in porking you up the poop chute.  Don't ask and don't tell...

I saw an episode of the west wing about this. I know TWW aint reality but "Fitz" the Chairman Of The Joint Chiefs said something like

"I think the military wasn't designed to be an instrument of social change.The problem with that is that what they were saying to me 50 years ago. Blacks shouldn't serve with whites. It would disrupt the unit. You know what? It did disrupt the unit. The unit got over it. The unit changed. I'm an admiral in the U.S. Navy and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff... Beat that with a stick."

Given that the reasons are basically that homosexuality isn't natural, calling them a homophobe is hardly a personal attack.

Why not , they have the right to serve their country like everyone else. Just because a few people can't get past their personal yuck factor, people seem to think that gay people want to hit on nothing but straight people, they are wrong.
Why are people so afraid of gays? It's not like the sky is going to rain down fireballs & destroy our city's...
so what is it really? that they are afraid that they too might be gay?
I think it makes people uncomfortable because it reveals a part of themselves that they do not like, if they have a problem with gays then it shows their blind unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason. If they don't have a problem with them then they start wondering why they don't, "could I be gay?" they say to themselves & it freaks them out because they never bothered to get to know themselves well enough.
The question should be are you comfortable enough in your own sexuality that others preferences do not bother you.
