Hello the dust covered Manhattan and spread as far as New Jersey. It wasn't just the first responders breathing it in. The EPA told ALL New Yorkers the air was safe to breathe. Last time I checked there were lots of people living in New York. Also, just because they haven't died yet doesn't mean they aren't sick with something that is going to kill them. And that is horrible.

No it's her fault that she told everyone the air was safe when she knew it wasn't.ssj3barua wrote:
Why is it Condi's fault that toxic dust settled in New Jersey. Is she really to blame for that?
Imagine the air in your town is pronounced toxic. What would you like your government to do?N.A.T.O wrote:

If the EPA wanted to put out a press release to say that the air was safe to breathe, who can blame Ms Rice for giving approval? EPA are the experts, Condi is a bureaucrat. 'nuff said.JimmyBotswana wrote:

On September 24th, the NYPost reported that it was Condoleezza Rice's office that "gave final approval to the infamous Environmental Protection Agency press releases days after 9/11 claiming the air around Ground Zero was "safe to breathe."
...
Not only did Condi's office give final approval for the press release that has affected 1000's of New Yorkers, two devastating memos, written by the U.S. and local governments, show they knew. They knew the toxic soup created at Ground Zero was a deadly health hazard. Yet they sent workers into the pit and people back into their homes."
What do you say to that media? U.S. and local Governments knowingly sent New Yorkers to their death.
Is that "newsworthy" enough for you?

Mind if I use that? It's great.
In any sense it's ridiculous to suggest such a thing. You make it seem as if Condi was down at ground zero taking samples herself. It's sounds like the initial reports of the level of safety due to toxins could have been wrong. I wouldn't imagine the test conditions to be ideal at the site where 3 huge buildings had came down. I am sure there was some sense of urgency to get on with the rescue efforts, if the EPA cleared it what's the govt. supposed to do? Say no, go do some more test while the possibility of people are dieing in the ruins?JimmyBotswana wrote:

Is that the only source you have? That site is hardly unbiased.

Exactly. If the government had waited, you'd be bitching that people died because there was no urgency.Kmarion wrote:

Direct quote: "Bruce Sprague, an E.P.A. official in the New York and New Jersey region during 9/11 admited to CBS 2 News the agency was finding alarming air quality readings at Ground Zero and in the surrounding areas.
Sprague said the E.P.A. had written much more conservative health assessments, but the memos had to go to Washington. And when the White House got its hands on them, they -- according to Sprague -- softened them."
What is a biased source? The NY Post, an infamously conservative newspaper? NY CBS 2? Yourbbsucks.com is just reprinting these it is not my source.
From the NY Post: "Early tests known to the EPA at the time had already found high asbestos levels, the notes say. But those results were omitted from the press releases because of "competing priorities" such as national security and "opening Wall Street," according to a report by the EPA's inspector general.
The chief of staff for then-EPA head Christie Todd Whitman, Eileen McGinnis, told the inspector general of heated discussions, including "screaming telephone calls," about what to put in the press releases.
The notes come from a 2003 probe into public assurances made on Sept. 16, five days after the 9/11 attacks. They tell how a White House staffer "worked with Dr. Condoleezza Rice's press secretary" on reviewing the press releases for weeks.
Condoleezza Rice's office gave final approval to the infamous Environmental Protection Agency press releases days after 9/11 claiming the air around Ground Zero was "safe to breathe," internal documents show."

No but they could have told people the truth. Maybe people would have worn better respiratory protection.Stingray24 wrote:

That story has since been removed from the NYPost's servers.
The only other news agency to cover this story was NY1 News.
Isn't that "newsworthy" enough for our media? It is WELL KNOWN that there are sick and dying individuals from the toxins of Ground Zero. Why then doesn't our media think Condi's involvement warrants attention?
Is it not juicy enough for you media? Is it because we're in an election cycle, and news like this would be bad for the Republican party?
Well guess what. It gets even juicier.

Where do you get the number of "thousands of innocent people" from? Also, the same news article that you copied and pasted into your post also said that it was the New York City health department and the mayor's office that were urged by the building owners to open the city.
Maybe Condoleezza approved the press release, but I don't see any proof in your post that she knew there were toxins there.
"Is it because WE'RE in an election cycle..." YOUR not in any election.
"Why then doesn't OUR media think..." It's not YOUR media.
I'm also pretty sure any newspaper in the US would jump on any chance to bash Condoleezza, the Bush Administration, or any Republican in general because they are all(at least the big ones) very liberal.

Obviously its her fault, shes part of Bush's Administration (j/k), but seriously though, last I knew of, it was the lady in charge of the EPA that publicly said everyone was safe to breath the air. I watched a special on Discovery Times channel a few weeks ago, which showed the footage of her announcing it to the media.....while standing within a couple blocks of Ground Zero. Im not saying Condi didnt approve the lady to say that....but the EPA was the ones monitoring the air.....they went to the Gov't, and said its ok to breathe, Condi isnt an environmental expert. She probably signed it off because she was basing her decision on the information she was provided. Ever think maybe the EPA lied to the government?ssj3barua wrote:

By the way, there are some people sick with untreatable respitory problems, because their lungs took in so much different kind of materials, that doctors dont know what to do with them. Doctors showed some pics on the show of peopls lungs, and they were a pinkish color, but there were these blue spots all over the place that the doctors said are foreign objects. Most of these issues are occuring in emergency personnel, and some civilians living near by. But the main issue that most of these people are concerned about, is not adequate medical coverage, and they say the government isnt doing enough to help them. I have no opinion on that.
Am I teh gonna die????
Normally i HATE this jimmy dude, but he does have a point about them fucking up on air quality testing...That shoulda been the 1st clue that Bush was a fuckup...but then i didnt vote for him.
Bush was a fuckup? What are you talking about... As far as i can see in this whole two pages of posts Bush in not mentioned anywhere or blamed for anything. How is it his fault?
I also like that "...Rice's office approved the press release"--[sarcasm] therefore Rice obviously signed a malicious and deceitful fabrication about air quality to KILL BAZZILLIONS OF AMERICANS![/sarcasm]
