No, he probably isn't the first person 'this' has happened to, but whatever it is it has affected him enough for him to feel that he can't participate in this community anymore. He didn't come here looking for your sympathy, he came to say goodbye to some people he feels connected to.

You don't know what the circumstances are and so you're not in a position to tell him to "Grow up and take it like a man". All you've done is make youself look like an insensitive prick, maybe you need to grow up yourself.

Good luck if you go.  There is always someone worse off than you, no matter how bad things seem to you.  Ive suffered a huge loss over the last 12/18 months, I didn't share it, it still hurts but coming here and talking to genuine people helps.  Think twice before you go as the people here can help even if they don't know they have.

Hey man, dont quit. I am going through a drastic change myself in life (probably not as close to what you're going through because its only the change of going to college) and it's pretty tough for me also. In fact, I can relate to you because just this past month, I decided to stop doing the one thing I loved because Im going to school for 18 hours a week, working 30 hours, and spending a lot of my freetime studying and it's miserable. Not until I read your message and those messages from the mature responses, did I realize that by giving up the one thing I love to do, I am making my life even more miserable.
Now Im sure, since you posted it online, it has to be much worse than the change I'm going through since mine just about everyone goes through... maybe the loss of a close relative or a friend, or whatever it may be, but dont quit something you love to do or even like to do, because it helps you relieve stress, it really does (unless you are some maniac gamer that is only having fun when you're 29-0 and in first place by 50 points). So, Im saying, just give it a small break, and if your life is great without it, then great.
Of course, if you have had a friend or relative die in the war or with anything using guns or explosives, I understand why you quit, but other than that just give it a break... and this goes for anything else that you might ever be thinking about quitting.

Mucho props to you for realizing yourself that you have a problem and being proactive in the solution.
