BF2S Forums What constitutes a good Sniper??

I play snper most of the time because I like it (and sometimes because lag and jurky video doesn't allow me play others <huh>) I sucked in the early days but that's under control now.
I try to maintain my high accuracy allthough I prefer to target moving target and long range shots, which makes a hit more difficult. While running to my hide-out the pistol is my main weapon. I'll go knife (or stay pistol) for close combat and claymores are only to protect my six, not as offensive weapon. So I play the class in it's purest form and don't gather point by driving armor as sniper....
I get a poor KDR because or I piss-off the commander who arty me, run into armor or get into an uneveb balanced cloase combat against AKs.
Allthough my accuracy is fairly good, I don't care about stats. I play for the fun.
I play the other classes too, depending on the need of my team (so mostly support or medic) and engineer when I need to respawn and see that the commander assets are down.

In my opinion accuracy only doesn't proof alot on its own. Killing one target with a headshot is 100% accuracy. Keeping a high accuracy for 1000 kills is more a challenge and maintaining it for 5000+ and more kills.....

Agree to some level, but when the battle goes for the last flags, example SF Warlord palace, then a sniper is not much of use anymore; Even the most experienced hotshot sniper is less usefull that any other class.

accuracy doesnt mean a thing if a sniper is good or not. a solid KDR and KPM indicates skill and nothing else. take Nyte as an example, he has a good accuracy but his KDR and KPM sucks --> 2.nd rate sniper

ive recently gotten sniper to click. in the process, i have seen my K ratio as a sniper become something like 3.0-10.0 whereas my accuracy has dropped from 52 to 49 percent. This is because I have started almost always moving while shooting and shooting as frequently as possible at anything in view no matter how unlikely the shot.    You are very difficult to kill. They are not so difficult to kill. get it?

What I mean is that sometimes a sniper is needed, sometimes they are not, a good sniper is a person who can realize this and use a rifle effectively when it is needed, but can also use a few different kits once the necessity  of a sniper is no longer there.

If you like to work for accuracy work for accuracy. But if you want to be the best sniper you can be (the most use to the team) accuracy is practically irrelevant, as a goal in itself. You might want to consider kills/time... essentially, SPM... plus KDR. A very high KDR is the ideal for a sniper, if you play the traditional standoff role. If you play as a 'combat sniper' then, ideally, you compensate for the lower KDR with a higher scoring rate (faster kills, more flag points).

FYI you're nearing the limit of where your accuracy will climb to in this game because of lost shots and deviation.

I second that and imho the best skill a sniper can have is the ability to choose an other kit.

Depends on the map and player load. If you're halfway decent, on an urban map, the server isn't full and you're there for the entire round you should be near the top a fair bit of the time.

Don't make the mistake that a lot of top players make of applying your standard to everyone and thinking that's appropriate. Nyte's infantry KPM is higher than that of most players who use automatic weapons all the time. And, incidentally, slightly higher than yours for recent play globally, just under for the sniper rifle.

IMO dedicated snipers should play on maps where snipers are of use, period, in the same way that a guy who specialises in jets wouldn't go out of his way to play city maps.

effective snipers can change battles much like any kit. but as towelly said if a sniper is not needed i kit switch(slightly off topic) but it is a good thing to do
