  • 7950 GX2 simply does not perform as well as the x1900 xtx

Ok here is the deal I have both cards in two machines. My newer machine (Check my signature for my specs) has the 7950 gx2 in it. It is basically two 7900's stuck together for a gig of ram but the x1900 seems to be a faster card. So I'm going to put the x1900 in my newer machine. I really think my Benchmarks are going to increase.

My second system isn't too shabby a 3.73 p4 Extreme Edition 1086 fsb x1900 xtx with 2 gigs of ddr2 dual channel. (It is going to be converted into an all out media pc)

What are your opinions/suggestions for media Pc's?
Types of TV tuner cards, IR blasters, etc..
This is the newer Machine

What are your opinions/suggestions?
The performance is a very noticable difference between the two cards yet they are both high end.

That doesn't fit in with any benchmarks I've seen, which all have the 7950GX2 beating the X1950XTX quite convincingly. Would be interested to see any benchmarks you get in identical systems running a 1900 and a 7950.

You got a Conroe... even 7900gt is overkill

1900XTX is faster on normal resolution like 1280X1024, but on 1600X1200 hte 7950GX2 pulls the lead.

That's a sweet set up you've got there. Strange what you're saying about the 7950 though, although I seem to think the X1900 is clocked at higher stock speeds isn't it? Why the Alienware case though?

how can you review 2 cards that use DIFFERENT memory. in case you didn't realize, the x1950 hosts DDR4 memory.

I agree, I too have seen different e results that have been posted in various magazines and site. All I am saying is I am speaking of direct experience. Could there be a lean towards Nvidia due to who buys the most ad space..lol
IDK but I am about to swap the cards.

Ok I did score slightly higher with the 7950 gx2. The only test I ran was aquamark due to the fact I pulled a card out of a machine my girlfriend was using and she had to have something finished for work..lol (I'm going to pay for that later). My 7950 scores close to 150k at stock settings and the 1900 was only at 126k. That's actually quite a bit lower. Another thing is the 1900 runs considerably hotter than the 7950. So I'm sticking with the 7950, now where is that catalyst removal tool..

Next thing I need to figure out is why I am having a difficult time Oc'ing my chip. I have tried through BIOS,AI booster, and Nvidia Ntune tool (I have an Nvidia chipset). Every time I do my machine freezes. It doesn't crash like most do when you push the limit too far it just freezes. Any idea's?

Thats what I would have expected.

As for OC'ing your chip, try giving it a bit more voltage, might stabilise it a bit. Doesn't look like it's too hot so you should be fine with a touch more voltage.

Why can't you compare 2 different cards running different memory? I am quite aware of the differences. This does not mean the cards can't be directly compared. You can't compare them clock for clock, but you couldn't do that even if they had the same memory, because they run different architectures.

Very nice setup, But the best gague of the performance of the cards Isnt Aqua mark, Mainly because Its not just GPU Limited. The best GPU limited Bench right now is 3DMark 06.

Best way to test, because Benchmarks dont translate over to real world games is, Whatever card gives you Better Image Quality(always ATI) What one gives you better FPS (Depends on who the games developer favors more, usually nvidia). THATS what card you stick with. Its a choice between usually Looks or speed.

That's the nicest desk I've seen in a long while. Just make sure you've got enough power in general to run the card.
