Badcomp, cheers for the tip . I've done a complete reinstall of bf2 and SF without installing patch 1.03, seems there's problems with this patch, and on the advice of EA (UK), it's better off without it

For more information on this 'fix' > http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=6275

Thanks again fo rthe info
Well, doing what the tech recommended to you also made a vast difference. I am again a happier fragger. THere is a LITTLE stutter now, but vastly better than previous. I'm going to keep tabs on it tho and watch that cache folder as well.

Another thing you folks may want to try is deleting everything in your temp folder.
Go to Start button -> Run-> type in "%temp% (without quotes), run that and delete everything in that folder. Helps out with performance in general and not just limited to in game experience.

I'm running maximum video and 2x AA and I've yet to see lag.  So, y'all with lag problems have to turn down your resolution and have a harder time seeing me? WOOHOO!!!!  Good for me and my uber-computer    Direct-X DIAG will give you all your stats.  Maybe we should post then here and compare components between machines.

In all honesty, this isn't about measuring everyone's "e-penis" and machine stats. I have a fairly competent machine able to run this game and I am sure so do others. Some people were having very noticeable and aggravating changes after the SF addition and patches. I was running at high settings with no problems up until this latest patch. That is where I and many other incurred our problems. It seems it's a delima with the game itself.

6600GT 128mb graphics card. Since the update, their (EA) min for SF is the 6800GT. As I've posted elsewhere, I don't mind upgrading from time to time, but this game's only been out since June and already we're looking at upgrading or 'down graphicking' ... we just adapt

oops, I forgot... I recently bought a new card... the 6600GT OC and it still wasn't enough, they want blood these people

Badcomp.... cheers for the additional tips, I'm going to have a day tomorrow tinkering with some settings to see what works best. It's only the SF maps that I'm having problems with, the others are great... and also 'ping', I was on a wild ride yesterday... ping between 13 and 1023, again, only on SF. I changed to bf2 and my ping was perfect ... every game . I know ping has very little to do with this, but it's getting mighty suspicious.

Hey bubba, take that chip off your shoulder and put it back in your pocket.  Wasn't trying to see if you had "e-penis" envy.

Wanted to determine what the actual recommended specs for running the game should be.  If you lag as well as others and I and others do not,  lets run the DIRECT-X DIAG and see what is different with drivers, configurations, memory, etc.  That way it can be determined and posted what the real recommended hardware for smooth operation of the game.

Odd about the ping because the application should have no impact on how the NIC operates.  That is the Windows driver that rules the ping.  Coincidence maybe?

Is your video card PCI-E or AGP?  What are your AGP aperature settings in the BIOS?  Just making sure you are taking full advantage of the settings for the 6600.

There was some discussion about reinstalling the 1.12 patch after the expansion pack was installed.  Simple stuff I know but maybe you overlooked it.

No chip here. I just took your post as compare my uber-machine against your non-uber. That's what it "sounded" like. Sarcasm is hard to convey sometimes in text.

With revised min specs for the game (which really is surprising for an Expansion that requires the previous full version to run on with lower specs) it may force many folks to upgrade to get the best experience. It'll be an expensive expansion to say the least if that's what is required. Look into a 7800gt. You can find the 6800GS for 200!!  Performs just as well as a 6800GT.    http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2593

For taking advantage of one's Nvidia card, I suggest the latest iteration of Rivatuner and maybe look into powerstrip.

For some tweaks, I found the guides on www.tweakguides.com to have some useful info and they have an update concerning the latest patch.

If there is a networking issue with SF, then that will have to be addressed in a later patch as you doing any fixes can't help buggy code.

Guys, all this talk about chips is making me hungry . We're only trying to help each other and others... and as Badcomp says "Sarcasm is hard to convey sometimes in text". I know, I used to host my own channel where people threatened to kill each other (for real) because of the misunderstanding of text/speak... It's not easy to convey emotions, good or bad

@KillerAFET. I'll get my info from DIAG and post it, we can all have a good laugh then As for altering settings in BIOS... I'm not so sure, it's not an area where I like to venture too much. The pc I game on is also my working pc that's hooked up to some...erm... security stuff, and although I know there's no conflict betwixt them, I don't want to do something that upsets either.

As I've said previous.... I went and bought the 6600GT OC, the OC bit stood for OverClocked, so you would imagine it would have been better than the 6600GT (standard), but not so..... an extra £80.00 for nothing

The ping issue was probably because the server I was palying on had recently upgraded some components, everyone was having wild rides. Funny thing though, some guy started a kick vote on me and he was automatically kicked.... because of high ping .... larf, I nearly fell of my chair

oops, I nearly forgot.. tis an AGP. I keep thinking about upgrading to PCIe but it might be cheaper just to buy a new machine

I'll run the Direct-X DIAG when I get back in town and try to paste it here on this thread then as well.  If you have quality components in your existing machine and decide to go to PCI-E all you need is a new MOBO and video card.  Building is always preferred to buying so you can tailor the machine to YOUR needs and not the generic public.
Many people think that extra RAM is not needed but when I'm the first person in a map every time and I get a chopper or tank or the option to select sides its worth it to me.  I'm beefing my system to 4GB of matched Corsairs after I get the gran grans taken care of for Christmas.  That'll ensure less hard drive wear, less time accessing the drive and faster performance running the game.

^ ^ I totally agree on the RAM, I have 2gb and usually one of the first into a new map. I used to run it with just 1gb.... it was just too slow and I was always the last into a new map.
