I was down at Ground Zero on the anniversary of the second attack on The World Trade center on 09-11-01. It was supposed to be a memorial service so bringing a camera was the last thing on my mind, even if I had thought it appropriate. Others brought cameras for what ever reason and I guess thats cool. Everyone has their own story and reasons for being there.

The event was defiled by the lunatic fringe. the Conspiracy Theorists Why they had to start a small riot at a memorial service is beyond me, but seeing the assortments that filled their ranks made a lot very clear for me. Assholes.

I really wished I Had brought a camera. I counted no less than three "Australian / Safari hats. Tons of printed tees Loose Change was popular as was assorted "Bush This !" " Bush that ! " etc. What adult wears a T shirt with profane printing on it? Lots of Jamma wear. Color coordinated sweat suits, One size fits all stretchy pants. Face painters abounded. Many ex hippies who revived their battle garb for one last time. Wire Rimmed glasses galore lol ! And New wanna be hippies who can only dream about cursing Nixon!

I even heard someone shouting about ( I swear I am not making this shit up)         NAM !

It was surreal as it was desrespectfull.  They were Helpless and Harmless but they were scum. funny scum.

It's disrespectful of them to 'protest' at the memorial. They have every right to those opinions, but that wasn't the necessary time to voice them.

We should have more rights: e.g. the right to ask permission to bash people up.

I think the ability to issue permits for massive street brawls (under the condition that both sides pay for on-scene emergency medical service) would do much to ease social pressure in the US.

RABBLE! RABBLE! RABBLE! RABBLE! RABBLE!

the protesters at the WTC and the Westboro Church (protesters at the soldiers funerals) are protected by the amazing ACLU

Oh and if someone was there actively supporting Bush, and I'm sure there was, that's appropriate? Oh yeah, it's a Horseman post. In his little world it is.

It's not a matter of having too many rights. With the exception of extremities (I.E. murder, rape) you can never have too many rights.

It's a matter of people having poor judgement. Regardless of the social issues behind, or surrounding a death, you should respect the dead.

Of course, I would've read this without judging, but Horseman had to go further and suggest all liberals are the loose change type.  Sorry Horseman, there are nuts on both sides, but when you stereotype like that it proves your simple.

Wrong.

They're protected by the amazing constitution.

The ACLU just likes to remind people once in a while that the constitution exists, and that you shouldn't take a big greasy shit on it just because you don't like what a small group of fanatics has to say.

Oh my god.  Somebody call the fashion police!  It's so totally disrespectful to wear anything other than black at a memorial service.  And what the heck do you have against wire-rimmed glasses?

On the other hand, it's very American to protest, at any kind of event.  A memorial service for civilians?  Fine, let them say their piece, preach for peace, whatever.  You get on and grieve for your lost loved ones and leave them be.

I hate people.  Not because they are wrong, but because they wipe away any bit of truth or weight that these theory's may have by their eccentric behavior and bad manners.  Even if one of these theory's is true, it will never be taken seriously because everyone will remember these people being complete and utter douche bags at the most solem ceremony in our time.

It makes me sad to see this.  It really does.

"I got a warrant, I'm gonna thrash the shit out of you now!", sounds good to me... In cases such as that anyway. Why they would protest there is beyond me as it just lowers public opinion of them, is also very likely to offend just about everybody.
