For thinking :

George Orwell... 1984... and Animal Farm

James Frey... A Million Little Pieces.... and My Friend Leonard

For fun (with some subtle and clever food for thought)

Anything by Terry Pratchett.

Although they are just a top few picked from a list of hundreds.

I didn't like fear and loathing at all - I did love the film though!! kinda made a hell of a lot more sense than the Gonzo style prose..

I actually read a large amount books, and mainly just for entertainment. I enjoy crime, WW2 novels, and books on Modern History. I find that ack Higgins is probably one of my favourite writers because of the large amount of books he has written and how they all seem different in their own way. My favourite is most likely "The Eagle has Landed," also by Jack Higgins. If it wern't for books, I wouldn't no English so I am in debted to them. So books in general have changed my life...

Damn I used to love those books as a kid - I presume you mean Alfred Hitchcock presents... The 3 Investigators?  I should have the entire series up to about number 30 in a box in an attic, I so wanted my parents to own  a junk yard!!

Yeah.....that's the series!  I've spent several hours randomly over the last few years trying to remember the name but I could not come up with it until a lucky google search finally hit it a few weeks ago.  That was an awesome series of stories to read as a kid.  That whole junkyard hidehout was SO cool!  I think I was in fifth or sixth grade (~1975) when I started reading them (I used to read them under the blankets with a flashlight after bedtime) and they probably had a lot to do with my curious nature even today   Great stories for a young and inquisitive mind if any of you have children that age.....
