So as we all know yesterday was, of course, the 5 year aniversery of 9/11, one of the most terrible, and spontaneous attacks on a country in history resulting in the deaths of 1000's of innocent civilians. So i went to school yesterday with thoughts of the people that lost their lives in the back of my mind, as i'm sure we all did. As I sat through the daily announcments, we were all anticipating one specific one, the moment of silence for all who died of course. When it didn't come i was genuinely surprised as were most of the other folks. The results of the football game were anounced. Seniors were reminded to make an appointment for thier senior portraits. The fact of the day was given. But no moment of silence or even a mention of what has now been made "Patriot Day"! The teacher had us do one just in the class after the announcements went off, but i was still surprised that they didnt do one over the PA for the whole school. I suppose some would say "well its been 5 years, its time to move on" or "it doesnt affect me, or hardly anyone else in california" (I live in SoCal). But we are currently in a war that is a dirrect result of the attack! I personally know or have met a handfull of people that are currently in the military and/or overseas right now, so it does indeed affect us even though we are on the other side of the country! Anyways just wondering what you all think of this forgetting the moment of silence thing. Comments welcome...
