I decided after 1.4 was installed to cruise onto one of the IO servers, just to see what was going on. I know a lot of people just view it as a counter-strike clone, but I was still curious.

Of course, my first map was Jalalalalalamalamadingdong, and I hopped into a match halfway over. It was a blast; the tactics were in play, squads were actually working together, corners were covered, cover was utilized. It was beautiful.

Then the next match started. Oh boy.

I was USMC this time around, playing medic (want my veteran badge).  Immediately I knew something was wrong. All around me were ghillie suits and red crosses. And, sure enough, about 25 snipers on the other team started picking people off. Of course, there was WAY too many medics, so there was much infighting as to who would get to revive people. I actually witnessed medics TKing each other just to revive our dead battalion of snipers.

Then came the nadespamming. Holy Jeez...Nothing but long range bullets in the dirt and small nade explosions for at least 10 minutes. There was no hope of getting through the MEC line; too many snipers just waiting for another kill.

The entire match was spent between the Checkpoint and the USMC base. Nothing but a war of attrition. Occasionally a Spec Ops guy would get through, and get mowed down. This happened rather frequently. Needless to say, no one's assets got blown up.

I am certain this type of gameplay is feasible, with the right map, coordinated squad tactics, and a competent commander. However, the real truth is that there are too many glory/point whores who will always pick sniper/medic...just like usual.

Hopefully the kinks will be worked out soon. For those people who want to say, "If you don't like it, don't play it," I agree totally. It's a matter of personal opinion.  I think it's a great idea, and will bring fresh gameplay, but it's going to take some time.

Wait until you try the 16 player maps. They are a blast. I've been a 64 player map fan since last October but I now have a reason to play the 16 player ones.

But I agree that Jalalabad 32 player sucks because it's so far away to the first flag. At least with the 64 player version of it there is a flag on the USMC side of the river making it a bit easier.

Eeek. That would suck. They need to keep the the map size equal to the number of slots.

It was fun the once, but I hope it was just a setup error, not something you'd want to play.... server went back to 64 afterwards but I left anyway as I can only take so much IO.... I'm a ground pounder - but if your going to loose transports I'd rather have armor and transports than neither. Personally would have perfered a no-aircraft option - which would have worked well for Wake - but full IO is shite on so many maps.

Yep, I agree. 32 and 64 player maps should at least have transports. But then again, I sure love that sprint increase and I've yet to be teamkilled for a vehicle.

I did play on a 64 player Infantry Only Sharqi Server and i was really missing both tanks, the apc, both helos and Artillery.

Infantry Only doesn't suit for large number of players and on big maps, it's not fun and it regularly ends in nadespamming and snipernewbs running around everywhere.

I rather stay on small 16 player maps with a small amount of players (max. 16). This is by far the most fun you can get out of infantry only play.

Taking out vehicles just throws off the entire balance of the game. I gave IO mode a try, spawned as AT because i need time, then i realized AT is pretty useless in IO, so i respawn as medic to try and get some heal points. Turns out 3/4 of my team had the same idea. i ran around most of the game fighting and healing. Between the 20 other medics i ended the game with 1 heal point. Everyone only plays medic/support and thats it. it's like a "legal" stat-padding festival. all other kits are useless. I choose not to play IO mode.

I played 16 player map size with about 20 people.. No nade Fest, or even Claymores really.. Sure there was a few snipers, but i just bunny hopped along with my med pack and they couldn't kill me.. it was a blast, i'm just mad that there isn't some servers running other maps then Jalalabad for IO..

I'm confused you said "i ended the game with 1 heal point" then claim its "it's like a 'legal' stat-padding festival" - sounds like the opposite.

What they need to do is have this option:

'Vehicle-lite ranked map option:
o Replace Tank and APC spawns with heavy jeep spawns
o Replace AA vehicle spawns with light jeep spawns
o Remove Jets
o Replace Littlebird and Attack Helicopter spawns with Transport Helicopters

'Vehicle-neutered' ranked map option:
Same as above except transport vehicles have their guns removed.

@KylieTastic

Im just saying it's like a pad-fest because the only kits played in IO are medic and support. There really is no need for all others. Those players end up with higher scores than the people killing and capping flags. I was doing both that round, but there was just too many medics healing to get heal points. Other players didn't seem to have trouble getting them, dunno what i was doing wrong.

Soon as i saw someone with low health, like 20 medics dog pile him and everyone has to share the heal. Plus u constantly have support guys throwing ammo bags in your face. I killed a guy then reloaded, next i had 3 support guys throwing ammo at me. It was kinda nice to always have ammo, but i don't need it CONSTANTLY, It got really annoying. There was only a few of us that cared about fighting, the others only seemed to care about points.

See, that's what I'm talking about. There's no need for engineers, AT guys, or Spec Ops. It's a shame, because together all these classes combined with the Sniper, Medic, and Support make the game really engrossing. They could've at least included the little dune buggys. And y'all are absolutely right...it is ridiculous how many snipers/medics/support guys there are. The snipers are the guys on OFFENSE! How back-asswards is THAT?

Ya, the other night on Jalalabad I also saw at least 8 out of every 10 players playing as sniper.  And they were noobs, as well, I switched to sniper and was in 2nd place in like 5 minutes or something.

But once you get to the Fountain, then it turns into some intense assault rifle action.

Good for you. The DAO-12 is excellent for CQC, especially in IO mode; the engineers' guns are also very useful. The SpecOps could play a very vital role...in IO mode, The commander is reduced to being a recon force with the scan and UAV. You take those out, the commander is basically useless. Hopefully people will realize this soon.

In all honesty they really should add a limit to the number of kits for each team.  On IO especially, there should only be like 2 snipers per team, and maybe 3-4 medics.  Otherwise it usually just turns into a giant statpad festival

I agree, but you know as well as I do that the minute they start restricting class selection, there will be great moaning and gnashing of teeth.
