ok heres the deal, i am bout to get my new pc and this is what i had in mind (i cannot spend more than a thousand dollars)

Processor: intel core 2 duo e6600 at 2.4 ghz (i heard it is very easy to overclock, and might buy a liquid cooling system)
Graphics Card: Evga 7600gt ko 256mb PCI EXPRESS X16 (will upgrade to dx10 cards when they come out)
Mobo: Probably an asus mobo that supports core 2 duo
memory: 2 X 1gb of DDr2 memory saw a pair at newegg.com for like $269.99

VS (the PC I OWN NOW)

Processor: Intel P4 at 1.6 Ghz oced to 1.8Ghz
graphics card: a shitty nvidia evga FX-5200 AGP 2X
mobo: some old crappy one
Memory: 3X 512 mb of SDRAM

SO PPL PLEASE TELL ME IF THAT IS A GOOD UPGRADE. THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS!

Looks good.

You should read this article (19 pages though) from Anandtech.  They make some pretty good recommendations for building a Core 2 Duo platform.

Get Asus P5B Deluxe and 2Gig of Corsair XMS2 Also, an X1900GT is well worth it (the-less-expensive x1900s) - they still carry the r580 core and if you put an arctic accelero on it.. well, no worries about cooling there ;P

You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

i mostly want the pc for flight simulator x, bf2142, halo 2 and resident evil 4 for pc. Iam a huge flight simulator fan, and they suck alot of power out of ur system thats why i need it :-)

i'd say if you're gonna splurge that much on an entire system, it's probably worth it to spend another 50-75 bucks and get a better video card; either a 7900gt or an x1800xt.

yes its true.  although, if you have never overclocked before, "easy" might not be the word you are looking for.....

Anandtech was able to take their E6600 to 4Ghz on air cooling.....

To provide some idea of overclocking abilities with other Core 2 Duo processors, we ran quick tests with E6700 (2.67GHz), and E6600 (2.4GHz).  The test E6700 reached a stable 3.4GHz at default voltage and topped out at 3.9GHz with the Tuniq Cooler.  The 2.4GHz E6600 turned out to be quite an overclocker in our tests.  Even though it was hard-locked at a 9 multiplier it reached an amazing 4GHz in the overclocking tests.  That represents a 67% overclock.

i was thinking of getting the 7600gt becuase most ppl said it gave u the most bang for ur buck and i dont want to spen alot of money on a good gfx card yet because i want to buy dx10 card. (i dont get allowances, i have to save up the money i get from bdays and etc. lol)

Remember, for that DX10 card to use it's DX10 shaders, you will need to also buy windows vista.....sucks, but DX10 is not going to be compatible with XP.

by the time that dx10 actually becomes programmed effectively into games, a 7900 will be on it's last legs anyways.  you'll get a lot more joy out of a video card than you will a cpu.  i used to have an x800xl with is comparable to a 7600gt, and recently upgraded to an x1800xt.  night and day difference in crowded maps like warlord and iron gator when you have someone shooting at your back from point blank range and you need to whip around quickly.

Get the P5B Deluxe board. Good stable board but OCs like crazy also.

NewEgg has some Patriot 2x1GB DDR2 667 for like $180 and it will do fine unless you are doing insane OCing (going from stock 2.4ghz to like 3.6ghz for the E6600, then you may need DDR2 800, but anything like to 3ghz this ram should be fine.)

DX10 cards are going to be insanely priced when they come out, and from what I can tell you are in the same boat as me (you are a kid, I'm 14 almost 15 and have to buy my own computer and stuff, luckily I got my dad to agree to pay ~50% of it!) so unless you want to blow $160 now and $500 when they come out then I would just get a 7900GT or equivalent now and like 2 years from now when most games will be DX10 and cards come down in price you can get one of those. I'm going with a 7600GT and then a year from now I might upgrade to a 7900GT or equal card cause they should be about half the price they are right now.

They e6400 is the better overclocker right now, and it is way cheaper than the e6600. The average max OC is around 3.5ghz which is a 1.4ghz OC! Thats just the average too, I've heard some hit near 3.8ghz! The e6300 is also a great overclocker, it has been known to reach 3.5ghz and 3.0ghz is common. Getting a e6400 would save some money so you could get a 7900GT (or equal ATi card) and wouldn't have to upgrade for a while.
